I saw this coin today, and remembered that I had no U.S. coins from the 1700's. So I guess now I am a member of the U.S. 1700 club (not sure if I heard that or made it up)

I hope I did not do to bad in the purchase of this coin. I do think it is a 1798 over 7. It seems to be easier to see in hand with a 10X glass, but I can see the tips of the "7" on the top left and right of the "8".

I know it is not a high grade coin .. but in hand it does not look to bad.
Bright lights and being blown up in size does not help with eye appeal.

I'll second that S-152. "The left peak of an underdigit 7 creates a 'horn' on the 8. The E in LIBERTY rests between hair curls."

Nice over-date. She's been in the ground but rescuing and old copper and giving her a new home is a great thing. Congrats.

Super nice. I wanted a 1798 badly for my 7070 but just couldn't find one I could afford and then my 1800 came along and so that dream went on the back burner. Still simmering' tho!
