Stopped at the bank today. No $2 bills to buy, but the teller said he had $6 worth of loose half dollars. I was about to say, "no thanks," until I noticed a stripe of silver in the little stack he was holding up for me to see...

I debated asking if I could just have the one, but I ended up just buying all of them from him. The silver turned out to be a 1967, so only 40% silver, but still a nice find.

He mentioned that he had a box of 500 in the back if I wanted more. I wasn't in a position to do that today (had the family waiting in the car and we were running late to an appointment), but I might go back on Monday and see if its still available. I've only done that once before and was a bit disappointed in the results (two 1967's out of an entire box), but you never know...

Good score on the 40%. I always forget to look in the teller trays. My Brother says he just peeks over the partition and looks for himself. I feel like I'm invading the teller's privacy.

If you can swing the $500, you should get the box. You can always turn it back in for $500. You're not out any money. I would be happy if I found 2 40% in a box. Sometimes I get more, sometimes I get less. Finding silver is always good in my opinion.

Are $2 bills that collectible? I think my bank Manager said something a while back about having $2 bills in the vault. I think I'll ask her about them on Monday. I need to take her a box of candy anyways. She has been really good to me lately.

I agree with murphy while the box most likely wont yield anything at worse youre left with the exact amount of money you started with so it never hurts to try.

I work on the computers for a large bank. the other day the teller said she had over $250 of half dollars. I said I can buy 80 dollars worth. Well I got to look at them in the bank. I found no 64's but I did find 3 68's and 2 67's. Not bad. I will return there on Monday and get the rest of them. btw the rolls were hand rolled from an elderly person.

If I found 2 40%'s in one box I'd probably die of a heart attack and it'd take the undertaker three weeks to wipe look of shock off of my face.

Finding 2 40% in a box is something I have not done in a long time - and I search at least 2 weekly!

Now that's funny tgauchsin. I think I should start spending mt $2 at all the fast food joints around town and quit going to the market. I could eat for free for a couple of months.

Ah, well... Went back to the bank today and picked up the box of half dollars they had. All Loomis rolls. Not a single silver coin in the box. Now I just have to figure out what to do with $500 worth of half dollars...
