After sorting through thousands of coins, this is the first CC I've found in the family stash. It's in pretty bad shape, my guess is the obverse might make VG08 but the reverse looks awful. Oh well, I was thrilled to *finally* find a Carson City! At first I saw the marks and didn't know what to make of it-- "what are these strange c-shaped marks?" Doh!

Nice find. Rims too worn for a G4.

Regardless of condition, finding a Carson City coin where it is least expected is always exciting.

CC = Chocolate cake.
EVERY coin collector knows that!

You are doing everything correctly.

Ok. Your quarter is worn. So what?!? A cowboy used it and that is what makes it so romantic.

@Voshus007, my initial post may have misled you-- the 'thousands' of coins include all types/denoms. We only have ~30 of the Seated Qtrs and of those, I estimate that 21 are AG3 or lower. There are a few higher grades I'll look at more carefully (1877 AU, 1877-S VF, 1853, '54, and '75 VG, 1857-O F, 1875-O ~G4-6 (based on newbie grading). Maybe I'll take pics of some of the nicer ones later today along with the small pile. I don't have pics of the whole stash of varied coins.

I toured the Carson City mint a few year's back. It was a neat place. They still have one of the original mint presses there and they run it to mint souvenir coins one day a week. You can buy the coin fresh off the press. The mint has become the Nevada State Museum and has the largest wooly mammoth bones in it that I have ever seen. Carson City is a neat place to visit and is close to Lake Tahoe.
