As I reach the wire on finishing our book on Counterfeit Portrait 8Rs - I find myself in a problem of my own creation. I hope some of you can help me out. You all know I collect counterfeit coins. But what I don't have a lot of in my collection (anymore) are REAL ones. What I need for the book are photographs of indisputably real Portrait 8R edges. The edges need to be clear and not badly worn so that the designs used are clear. I can crop and re-orient basically any shot as long as it is either horizontal or vertical (I don't yet know how to rotate an angled picture). There is no need to show any of the face of the coin (just an indication of the king and Mint along with the picture.) This would actually make a great precursor to a definitive study of real edge designs by date but for now all I really need data by King and mint. The following is a theoretical wish list. Each King - Charles III, Charles IV and Ferdinand VII. For each of the Kings, I would like one picture for each of the mints that made the coins. If possible I would also like to include the peninsular mints of Spain. I am not going to illustrate the War time mints of Mexico. So here is the entire wish list.
Charles III Charles IV Ferdinand VII
Mexico City Mexico City Mexico City
Potosi Potosi Potosi
Lima Lima Lima
Santaigo Santaigo Santaigo
Guatemala Guatemala Guatemala
Seville Seville Seville
Madrid Madrid Madrid
Columbia (P)
Cadiz
Cuzco (Peru)
Reus (Cataluna)
Valencia (V)If anyone can provide photographs let me know - I can insert photo credits for pictures used. Thanks

Thanks Matthew - I believe that I can use several of those.
The focus for now is on the portrait 8Rs only, but you do have some interesting edges. The lack of substantial variation in the 8R series of Spain may allow me to post one single photo as a type. I will wit to see what other pictures we can locate before making a final decision. I have roughly a week or so.
How should the photos be attributed?
I just noticed my table came out horrible - you can not uses blank spaces to create a table.
The last 5 mints are Ferdinand VI only.

Swamperbob, I am terrible with pictures but have all the Mexico Mint Portraits, If I can figure out a way to take a photo I will send you some sweet looking edges. I am open to tutoring from anyone who has any ideas. I have access to a flat plate scanner and an Iphone for taking images.

On a flat plate scanner I use a stack of 2x2 cardboard coin holders still wrapped in elastics. I put the coin in the center of the bundle and sit it on edge on the scanner surface. On mine I select the area to scan as just the edge and it did a great job. I also used a large felt covered ring case (with a spring hinge)for the same purpose. The coin stands up held in place by the ring box but I used an elastic around the outside to insure it stayed put.
Of course now I shoot directly through one lens of my binocular microscope. That way I can get even a clearer picture that can be blown up to enormous size for taking measurements.
The Mo, Pts and Lima mints are what I really need - clear clean and only about 5 segments long 3 circles two rectangles.
Thanks.

TJscoins - Hello and thanks - nice photos of the two overlaps. In this case what I am looking for is the design between the overpals to clearly show what a real edge design looks like.
