I cheated and bought a complete Lincoln Cent set in a Dansco album, including the 1909S VDB, from APMEX. I wish some of the key dates were higher quality, but I doubt I ever would have put together such a set on my own. It was just a lot easier to justify shelling out a couple of thousand dollars for a complete set than it would have been to pay $1000 or more for just a few key dates in better condition.

I realize many collectors would never consider buying a complete set assembled by somebody else, but I've never been a huge cent collector in the first place.

I just started my Lincoln Cent collection this year. My 1909-1940 album only has 14 LWC in it. (no key dates) My 1941-1974 is only missing 4 coins. (42s, 45s, 49s,and 55s). My 1975-2013 is missing 3 (2009D birth and early childhood, and of course the 2013, and 2013D) I hope to add to these considerably this next year.

Jaymon, I don't actually have any of those coins listed in my tradeables, but if you're interested in trading/buying rather than finding yourself in circulation, pop down to Buy/Trade/Sell--I'd be happy to go through my dups and see what I have; I guarantee I have nice copies of the 2009-Ds you need, and could help you get started on the wheats (the number of 1937's I have, oyyy).

I'm missing 1909 S VDB, 1909S, 1911S, 1914D, 1922 PLAIN, 1931S, plus all the overdates.

For an Aussie, I reckon that's pretty good, but there is another Aussie who's only missing 2 or 3 coins.

Might be a good time to get rid of them and start over

Oddly enough that is a lot more common than you think. Someone I know recently did the same thing. At a coin show he purchased a set from 09 to present. At coin shows I see many completed Albums of all kinds for sale. And asking dealers I've been told they are fairly great sellers.

After well over 60 years of coin collecting, yes the thrill wears off a lot. As an example last week at a coin show I purchased lots of coins and they just sat on a table until today. With well over 100 Albums and most full, lots of this does get old.

I don't collect varieties, so I am only out to collect one from each mint, for each year. So all I need is 1914D, 1931S and 2012P.

I too am missing key dates and some teen dates. The only reason why I am missing the teen dates though is my fault. I am a little "meticulous" with my coins and collection I general and if I don't find something (coin) I really like or is way out of budget, I won't buy it.

You'll notice that the majority of collectors are missing the same coins. And although they all come up for sale occationally, when you think about a coin like the 09S VDB with 484,000 minted and very possibly many millions of people that collect Cents, shouldn't really be able to get one to easily. Of course due to all the counterfeiting, many, many people do have them in their collections and may never know if real or not.
Same with most of the low mintage Cents. The 31S has only 866,000 minted and I'll bet many millions of collectors have one.
