Treated myself to a couple Christmas presents. What do you think NGC graded it? Picture of slab on Page 2

Conservatively speaking I'd say a VF-35

I don't see this as VF. Maybe I'm judging by standards more applicable for later dates in the series but I'd say F-15. There are some light scratches across Liberty's bust but nothing that qualifies as a problem. Color is pretty dark but original.
Merry Christmas!

I'm with Jaobler. F15, maybe 20. The hair says one thing, but the clasp and wings say another. Absolutely primo eye appeal.
An early state of O-109a, I think.

This one is a little bit of a puzzle to me to grade. The obverse looks VF30 to me with a few scratches and a small gouge or two. The reverse is weak but I attribute that to the strike and worn dies. A nice slightly off-center strike too! Overall, I, personally, think it's still a VF coin so I'm going with VF25. (I think NGC will too!)

I'm in agreement with Moe. It looks like a VF25 to me.

Quote: attribute that to the strike and worn dies. Is it possible to quantitatively and accurately differentiate between normal handling wear and a worn die hundreds of years after a coin has been minted? This issue has always bugged me... mdpmedia

Thanks for all the grades and comments. I'll reveal the slab later tonight. Quote: Is it possible to quantitatively and accurately differentiate between normal handling wear and a worn die hundreds of years after a coin has been minted? Sometimes it is by studying the highest relief points of a known series. Oftentimes it is guess work usually reserved for pieces XF and above. On this coin's reverse, the eagle's left wing (upper portion) is notorious for "soft" strikes. The incomplete feather detail could be attributed to strike weakness rather than circulation wear.
