Hi I just recently found out that there is a coin show in petersham which I am seriously considering going to but I just have a few questions to ask of the people who have had any experiences at this show. Are the coins aimed at low, medium or high budgets? Are the coins mostly low, medium or high quality? How many dealers are there that sell coins there of the 28 who are attending? Is there alot of predecimal coins available at the show? Particularly silver? Is it worth attending in terms of filling predecimal silver sets for a reasonable price? I would like to thank everyone in advance for their help

Some info here re the various Coin Shows for 2013, but the link for Petersham and some others still takes you to info for 2012 but I imagine, apart from the dates, the other info will still be similar: http://www.apta.com.au/SubMenu/Events_2013.aspx

I have been a few times to the Petersham shows over the last few years.
There is an increasing trend to market Australian circulating decimal in unc., and Australian NCLT. What is on offer is not really in my areas of numismatic interest, so I only turn up something like once a year. Prices are not necessarily cheaper that the rest of the retail market, because most the traders are part time hobby re sellers. There are also a few stamp traders of the same ilk, but stamp collecting is not my thing.
It is a bit like a numismatic version of a village market day.
The show itself is quite successful, because it is has always been there, over about 10 years. Shows happen at Petersham Town Hall on the 5th Sunday of the month, on those months that have a 5th Sunday. That happens 4 times a year. The next one is soon, coming up on this Sunday 30th December.
Parking is in the surrounding streets, and a walk of up to half a kilometre may be required. If I attend I will travel by train, because I can get a cheap ticket. If my memory serves me correctly, there is an entry fee, but that is quite small.

Hi sel Don't know which way you will be travelling by train, but there are track closures on Sunday. Granville to Lidcombe and Nth Shore line Hornsby to Chatswood. Gran to Lid means no trains from Parramatta to Lidcombe and no trains from Canley Vale/Fairfield to Lidcombe. Buses are running. This has been a community service announcement. LOL.

Thanks for all the replies so.far currently.i will be going but just need to know thw answers to these questions to be absolutely sure it is worth attending

To complete a florin set? probably not. If you are looking for decimals and NCLT, OK. They would be obliged to replace trains with buses, which stop at the railway stations only.
If I was close to completing a florin set, I would probably look at an I.S. Wright postal / on line auction, and bid on lots that may interest me. Google them, ( I don't know when their next auction is coming up), it may save you the effort of driving and finding parking, or using the alternative buses.

So, who was at the Petersham show today? I raided all the junk bins, got me some good notes.

The show went absolutely great I bought a lot of quality florins from a dealer who was very nice to me and helped me along with my collection (although there were a number of dealers who werent very interested in helping me due to me being only 17 years old little did they know I had brought half my bank account with me :D) All in all it was a brilliant show although I only purchased coins from 2 dealers the quality and quantity of material for a reasonable price was absolutely outstanding.

Well I am missing 10 florins including the 1934-35 centenary (most likely will get it in the next status international or downies auction) and the 1932 (been eyeing one at my local dealer) the only problem I am having is I just dont have the cash to purchase them at the moment so maybe in a month or two I will have enough money to finish my collection.

@of my florin, I felt the same, some of the dealers seemed to assume because of my age that I didn't have much to spend. Although they were right in assuming that, I don't appreciate not being treated as a fully valued customer.
