Hi all!
This is my first post so I would like to introduce myself to you guys. I am a 14 going onto 15 in FEB 2013 and my parents own a deli and I happen to find alot of weird and wonderful coins.

So... I wish to know the worth of one of those little 50 cent Jubilee coins with a slight yellowy tinge. I have a few of them and they differ from the stock Jubilee coins.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Quang.

You have come to a good place to find out about coins and collecting. Have a good look in this section to find out what is worth keeping; scarce years as well as some commemoratives and varieties.
Is the colour the only difference or is it the design as well?
I am not aware of any variety for these coins.

Jeff

Thanks for the reply Jeff. I am pretty sure that it is only the colour around the front.

Welcom to CCF! great to see some younger collectors turning up.

Sounds like it is just toned. It is not too unusual to find golden toned early decimal coins. Sometimes they can develop quite a strong gold tinge. If you could try to post a picture we could help a bit more.

Yeah, especially the 1977 Jubilee, they can vary from a gold colour to nearly copper for various reasons, only real value is curosity unfortunately.

The 1981 chuck and di 50c and the 1988 5c are another two coins which I have noticed commonly tone gold.

Thank you Enworb it looks like it must be toned then. I do not own a microscope to capture the coin and I know that my camera will not highlight the gold.

Thanks guys :)
