Beautiful coin but, I for one wouldn't pay that much for an 1880-S even if it an MS-69PL it still is an 1880-S. Prooflike 1880-S dollars are quite common.

Heritage has sold two of these in the last three years. There are 4 in NGC slabs - the auction coin is the third of the 4.

Neither Heritage example exceeded $20,000. I'm thinking the ebay coin is a bit overpriced. The seller's line about it being nicer than the PCGS 69PL (the single highest-graded Morgan business strike) is a load of crap - if this one was PL, NGC would have said so.

There's a gouge in the hair under the R of LIBERTY, a mark in the field left of right star #6, and a little ding on the nostril.

On the reverse, there are dings in the fields adjacent both wings, above the UN and IT of UNITED, and a rim ding above OF.

Anybody else find the seller really annoying in the video he posted? He reminds me a lot of Vince, the guy that does the Sham-Wow and Slap-Chop commercials...

that was a shamwow spot if I ever saw one

I'm sure he's just excited and overly so but excited nonetheless

$70k is the moon for that coin based on what heritage shows and as quoted by SSDave already

nice coin nonetheless

Definitely a nice Morgan... But IMHO not worth near $70k... Nor as nice as the PCGS MS-69PL... Not by a long shot...
I agree with SsuperDdave 100% and he's right on spot with his facts!
As mentioned even on the NGC reg site they have the value listed at $31,250 so 70k is just out of this world for a reasonable price...

Lol, too funny, absolutely the shamwow guy's twin!

No it is not worth 70, but it certainly IS a beautiful coin and I do see why he says it should get at least a star.

I would be jazzed as all get out to be handling that coin as well. He is a bit over the top, but he isn't the same level as that snot bag sham wow dip wad.

It's an utterly gorgeous coin. I'd throw $25k at him for it; it has better eye appeal than either of the two Heritage results. But $70k? Um, no.

When I showed this to my friend (definitely not a collector)he said, "It looks dirty. They should scrub it."

I'm never letting him near my collection again.
