Poll Question
I am wondering if people tend to collect coins in strict series (country and type, ie, "USA Morgan dollar", "Victorian 3 Pence"), or not.

I generally do a series for modern coins, but if I really like something Ill get it which will usually lead to a full series or date set series in the future

I'm trying right now to complete year sets of a type in the same exact grade. Tracking down coins that fit this criteria hasn't been easy.

I am currently one coin away from a complete Morgan Date Set in AU-BU (missing 1895), and a couple coins away from a complete French Overseas Territories aluminum 1 Franc set. Also working on a BU 46-64 Roosevelt dime set and a complete Lincoln Cent set. Other than that I collect whatever comes my way

Absolutely non-series-specific for me. I'm a generalist, and I like it that way.

I try to get some series, but not much, and I certainly won't be hunting each year... especially where I have no chance to anyway (I might only have 22 dates to go for a Wheat cent date set, but I know that I'd never get an 1922-D unless I search for it on ebay - and 1915, 1921 and 1931-33 would also be tricky). In fact, the only types I'm currently collecting as a series are circulating coins of my own country, and even then I'm sticking to getting them from circulation... so I had to wait several years for an 1999 copeck - they never really circulated much, and 1999 is a much less common date - and I'm still missing many dates from SP mint because they're much less common in Moscow! And strictly only collecting a single type? Like, seriously? I fail to see how anyone could possibly restrict themselves so much (well, unless it's a really varied type - like some ancient Roman ones - in which case they'd have no chance to get anywhere near a full set).

I have collected "series" of coins over the years filling folder then albums, sometimes completing them and other times fall short for a key. With now little income I seem to be able to only maintain my modern series of silver, proof sets, ASE's, and commemorative dollars. Just keeping them current from the mint eats up all I can afford.

I'm collecting all denominations, all possible years of all US coins. Possibly the only coin I'm not interested in lately is the Liberty Head Nickel. Otherwise whatever I see that I like.

I collect in series, but I also have a US Type set (7070) and collect non-US coins by type (although I have not been actively collecting the world coins for almost ten years now).

Definitely not series collecting for me - sounds dreadfully dull :)

I voted 1-2 Series Non-Exclusively. I started out type-collecting, but along the way got caught up w/ IHCs & CWTs. Most every purchase now is between those two areas, but if something else comes along at a good price, I would definitely consider it...

I do have a complete set of Lincoln Cents, but that's only because I cheated and bought the set already complete. Other than that, though, I'm strictly a general type collector.

I collect world coins by type and don't care about dates. There are some exceptions which are interesting in other way like dots after date (Canada) or different fonts and surroundings. When collecting by types there are usually cheap dates in different series to acquire - no worry about rare dates!

I am collecting all sets from France of the Francs period plus anything from Luxembourg, except the modern, needless proof issues. Did complete last year two sets, many, many still remaining.

Boy ima all over the place. Mind u, my interest in coins is solely silver and gold proofs, starting at 1 oz and I;ll do the fractionals as well.
I been trying to stick with certain governments. Now granted some may say how boring, like if you are buying proof gold eagles, well all that changes is the year lol. Same with Silver Eagles
But, like say, Mexico Libertads... they have fractionals. I have skipped the fractional pieces and instead only stuck with the 1 oz proof. The silver Britannia's also come in fractionals via their proof set. Now there I would make an exception and am now leaning at collecting besides the BU and proof Britannia, getting the annual proof silver set, even tho 99% of my 1 oz silver coins are either BU or Proof.
So I mean ima all over the place.. I wanna stay with a series and type.. but I have decided that I want to be flexible.
Same thing happened to me with the China panda silver. I cant get a proof each year of a Panda, because a 1 oz proof panda doesn't exist for every year with the same image as the BU version. Sure, they might release a medal (proof) and they have a 5 oz proof but there's no issue of a proof version of their BU panda 1 oz silver coin.
So, as a compromise, I am going to get a sheet of Pandas since I cant get a nice 1 oz proof :D I know it sounds weird but I do this with my collection to keep things flexible and varied. :D
