There is a spot in my slabbed 7070 for " this type" of commemorative half dollar...I am concerned about getting burned again on a raw coin purchase, but this one has me going back and taking a second look and possibly taking a chance. I don't think that it has been cleaned and should come back from PCGS as "problem free", unless I am missing something. I have had good results with this seller and they have a return policy of course, I just wanted to hear what the CCF has to say about it. Thanks as always! To me it looks problem free, I hope you get an MS grade. The design has always been one of my favorites.

If I wanted a Pan-Pac in a PCGS slab, I would buy a Pan-Pac in a PCGS slab. These coins have been around longer than the certification companies and have always been a higher valued commem. Therefore, problem-free coins have always been available in holders. Why isn't this coin in a holder? Perhaps it is simply a nice coin that is raw, or perhaps it was broken out of an AU details holder. Who knows?

The areas of "color" on the eagle's breast and left leg (from the viewer's perspective) suggest to me metal loss/wear that would make this coin an AU (but it could be just the image).
I agree with Tom B, if you're looking for a PCGS slabbed coin, why not buy one already slabbed in the grade you desire? Grades from AU to MS-66 are readily available.

Always looking for the overlooked gem in the raw. I normally wholeheartedly agree about already TPGed coins, but a problem free Pan-Pac in the slab are outrageous (IMO).
Hence my delima...looking for a deal, like everybody else.

When you say you are concerned about being burned, do you mean because it may have been cleaned or it is not MS?
I believe it is a gorgeous coin as long as the price is right.

CK, I am not savvy enough to determine whether a coin has been "cleaned" other that the obvious "white". I have bought a few raw coins that I thought looked good, sent in to be slabbed and they were returned labeled "cleaned".
An MS Pan-Pac would be $500+. I am thinking this one would be high-AU at best which would be more attainable.

How much are they asking?

I agree with the high AU (I initially had thought MS until commems pointed out the couple of areas). Can't tell about cleaning either but that is one beauty!
Looking forward to the "cleaned/original consensus".

Great looking coin but I do not think this one would get an MS grade. Appears to be light wear on the eagle and high points of the obverse.

AU condition...got it. Does it appear to have cleaned? I realize that lighting plays a BIG factor, but that's my main concern.

Hard to say if it was cleaned from these photos. Surface seems very dull and lifeless. No remaining mint frost of any kind which you would expect to find on a coin of this preservation. Might have had an old cleaning and now re-toning. I still like the coin and would buy it if the price was right.

Looks very nice to me! I am sure you will follow up with the results once you get it in hand, and once again when you get it back from the TPG.

Here is a NGC MS62 version (and it's an S/S) that is just south of $600. I think the marks towards the bottom obverse, top reverse of the rim are kinda "iffy", but it was slabbed with no problems. (sellers image) Here is a comparison image, the original coin appears (to me) have better detail (then again the white background image is kinda grainy).
