Guys lets Help Rod.O. try to get these guys .. here's the info ...We have to help if anyone can do it WE here at the forum can Welcome to East Coast Coins & Collectibles
REWARD OFFERED!
On Sunday, January 5th at 9:33 pm. Our store (East Coast Coins) was broken into at 36 Pearson Street in St.John`s. The suspect entered the store through the ground level door by breaking off the cylinder on the door. They then proceeded up the stairs to the wooden door where they broke the 12 inch glass in the middle of the door and went through this opening. Once the suspect was in our store our alarms were triggered and the police were called. After that time, the suspect was caught on our video cameras as can be clearly seen on our videos - " see our site http://www.eastcoastcoins.ca. They were wearing a hoodie with a distinct pattern and a jacket with a reflective stripe across the front. The person was in our store for 9 - " 10 minutes and left with very little - " collector coins and notes were ignored. However a hammer was left on our safe. Itis believed the suspects were looking for gold jewelry. Staff at the store believe the store was cased on Saturday January 9th by an individual who entered the store that day.
On Thursday, January 10th, at 10:50 pm, our store was again broken into in the height of a winter snowstorm. The suspects entered the store by once again breaking the cylinder off the main door. They then proceeded to the door at the top of the stairs where this time, they busted through the deadbolt on the door. Once again our alarm was triggered and they proceeded to break the second door to our store and took our 300 pound safe along with its contents. It is believed the suspects carried the safe through the adjacent park where a truck was waiting at Tupper Street. Although there was no gold jewellery in the safe, there was an extensive collection of Newfoundland Coins and Canadian Silver Dollars along with a large album of collector banknotes, an album of certified Canadian pennies and nickels all in ICCS holders (of note were mint condition pennies from 1937, 1939, 1947 and mint condition nickels from 1951 - " graded MS65) and approximately 30 trays of collector coins including, silver 1 ounce maple leafs and tubes of silver maple leafs and bulk Canadian silver coins. The items are easily identifiable as many were in soft plastic holders and were certified by ICCS (International Coin Certification Service). A reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved. Please help us help the police clean up this city.
Wow, amazing, the night of the storm Rod talks about, we had a chat about a couple of coins I had ordered from him. He explained that he had been broken into at the store and apologized for the delay in shipping. So he was robbed a second time after we talked. You can count on me to keep an eye out. Is the list of stolen goods available for us to peruse? i.e. ICCS numbers etc.
Yup the the second time and during the storm..They knew it would take long for the cops for sure...As for the list ? Maybe Rod has it... If so it would be nice to post it everywhere ...
I just "cut and pasted" the letter from Rod and e-mailed it to my dealer in Halifax, namely Citadel Coins. I talked to Martin there and they will keep an eye out for the goods mentioned in the letter above.
It is not far fetched to imagine that "they" could try to fence the stuff here in Halifax, it is just a short ferry ride from Argentia to NS. Anyways we are looking out for the goods.
tell them, do not put it on NTV, , and try and contact other collector stores in the area and Mount pearl; as they may bring it to other stores as they try and off load it. If the story has hit the news already then I really doubt that the people will try and sell locally. St. john's is a small city. Put an add in the paper looking for coins and collectibles, not the same people of coarse. Criminals are not too bright. I know the area, and have purchased coins via ebay from a guy a couple of KM away from there.
I know of a story (told to me this in august)where a somewhat famous musician in St. john's had all his instruments stolen and the person listed it for sale in the newspaper. Cops did nothing and he ended up buying it back from the freakin guy. good deal! Only in NFLD.
Very unfortunate this has happened to Rod. He's a well respected and great E-bay seller. These financially hard times we live in, we see more break and enter's and armed robberies so people can support their vices! Door cylinders are infact very easy to pry off with a set of vice grips. I've investigated hundreds of B/E's in the Metro Moncton area with this Modus Operanda. National statistics show that 90% of B/E's are unsolved, however, under these circumsatnces what's important is to get specific "identifier's" (marks/serial #'s) from the stolen item's as quickly as possible out to the knowledgeable public. Once that is done, it's usually only a matter of time until the stolen items surface. Very good chance we may be able to make head way with this. Sid, if you can contact Roddy and ask him to post pics on items stolen or even give us a description of 'em, it would be a major help!
obviously , you're more well equipped and experienced with this.. So I retract most of the gibberish I mentioned.... Any experiences I have like this, have been fixed by me.
I highly doubt the coins will re-surface anytime soon, and unless somebody comes forward , kiss' em good bye.
I bet it's a regular , frequent, customer that Rob already knows!
about 30% of the value in my collection is from my grandpa and father, if someone ever even thought about taking them, I would personally ... I wont say it.
anyways I hope this scum gets caught and thrown in jail. what a disgrace.
