It might look different "coin in hand", but I don't see an S, sorry.

I see what your talking about, but I dont see how the S would get so worn with the date still in tact like that. I almost want to say at some point someone attached an S to it which has since been removed

Yeah.. I agree with the others,I don't see an "S" either just a small mark where the coin has been hit at some point.

w/ basebal21. Sometimes our eyes play tricks on us... seeing things we WANT to see that aren't really there. As he indicated, not sure what would cause such a poor strike on the S, unless it was a grease-filled issue? What does it look like under higher magnification & better lighting?

Not sure but I don't think the Mint placed Black S's on coins.

I think the S is just wishful thinking. It seems like for the S (if there really was one at some point) to be worn down that much there would have been more taken away from the date also.

The VDB (from what I can make out) looks good, but an "S" I do not see.

aardspeed, A couple things,.. first, if there were a mint mark there the date would be as worn off as the mint mark would be.
second, if there were a mint mark there as you have marked with a black mark, it is way too close to the date, a real 1909 S VDB hasn't got a mint mark that close to the date.

Good try.. but no cigar.

No S on that like they said.

I checked for about 3 minutes thinking and looking for any clue.
