Hi all, a wonderful 79 year old co-worker gave me about a dozen coins today that her mother had. Amongst them was a not bad 1939 halfpenny and this coin. To my eye it looks like the "battering" occurred during the minting process as the rim design is overlayed upon it. I've had a quick look on the internet and so far haven't found any mention of this type of error or variation etc. As David Letterman says, "Is this something or nothing?" Thanks, M

Those rim denticles could have been laid back on themselves, possibly in the process of acquiring PMD.

Looks like it may have been found its way onto the railway tracks. I knew a kid that used to do it regularly.! (name withheld to protect the innocent.!!

Just off topic a tad ..... does she plan to retire soon? She must really like her work. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, it seems to be that the busier you are, the healtheir you are, when it comes to ageing). BTW: Agree with all the PMD comments, it's been through more than one strike! (It probably lost count after 30). Was the 39 a roo?

Agree about my fellow worker - and she is a volunteer. She use to be a chemist and her mind is very, very sharp still. Anyhoo, the 1939 is the second type with King George VI, piccie of the reverse below. Not bad, eh?

PMD--if it happened in he coin press, it would have retained its roundness as-struck.

Ha..we had a similar dilemma, buy a musk bar for a 1d or put it in the Tram track and wait for a Tram to trundle along.

Awildeheart that is the much more common type 1 reverse. The type two reverse has the kangaroo, that one is quite scarce.

Thanks for the comments. Not knowing much about pre-decimals, (and it could be said, not a lot about decimals as well) it is good to know the '39 roo is the one to look for, thanks Enworb. Thanks, M Hey, I cracked the 100 post mark!
