So, I'm selling a 1915-D Buffalo nickel on ebay when a prospective buyer wrote to me and said, "Hey, dummy, the reverse photo of the coin doesn't have a "D" mint mark. What's up with that?" So I go and look and sure enough, I uploaded the wrong reverse photo. So I write him back and thank him and tell him I'll get it fixed. Trouble is, there's already a bid on it so I can't just delete one photo and upload the other. So...using ebay's system I cancelled the bid and left a reason why "Wrong photo for reverse shown" So...now I attempt to revise the listing but it still won't let me...even though there are no bids and I'm 4 days away from the end of the listing. It'll let me add an additional photo, but I can't take out the wrong one.

Why?

I ended up cancelling the listing because that was the only way I could think of to get that wrong photo out of the mix.

Was there some other course I could have taken?

"Whether the stone [read:eBay] hits the glass [read:user] or the glass hits the stone... it ain't gonna hurt the stone." - Ken Borden, The Dig

ebay has been really tightening up its listing system to try and pre-empt any potential fraud.

As a result, it flummoxes the average user trying to do something right, and the cheaters simply cheat harder. :-)

Since ebay gets paid in either case, their official position is "Meh."

"Hey Dummy"

I love the kind of people that show up through ebay.

The replies to your question seem to be going down the path of the "Dummy" remark rather than giving you any help with your ebay problem. I can't help you with it either and I will go down the "Dummy" path too! I have never and would never sent a message like that to anyone on ebay. I have gotten them in reply though. Once I kindly pointed out to a seller that her 1863 CC dollar had to be fake since the Carson City mint did not strike a dollar until 1870. "Dummy" was to mild for her reply.

Haha! Sorry everyone. I was paraphrasing what the buyer said...and sort of using literary license for what he was probably thinking. I'm way too much of a hot-head to have calmly tolerated someone actually calling me a dummy!! (Even though I sure felt like a dummy when I realized he was right!!)
