Hi all. I've gotten tired of waiting for Dansco to do an updated album for the Kennedy series. I'm going to buy two blank Dansco Half Dollar albums, add an additional page to each and make my own... P Touch rules!

Anyway, I will make a place for the 79 and 81 proofs, types 1 and 2.

I will also have a place for accented hair, sms, 98 matte, satins etc.

Only thing I cannot decide is whether or not to add the NO FG coins. I cant seem to get a clear answer on how many there are or if there is a definite number of them.

I have thought that maybe I should just include the major 1966 No FG...

Which others would you include, if any?

Once I decide, I will post a breakdown of each page/album etc I will use to make my album in case anyone gets tired of waiting for dansco!

The No FG variety that I know of is the 1982-P.

After browsing the PCGS Regestry, there are a couple others;

1966 SMS No "FG" FS-901

1972-D No "FG" FS-901

Since the "No FG" coins are the result of clogged dies/excessive die polishing, it can occur on any year/mm combo.

The PCGS registry is one of the reasons I am confused. All I see on their list is the 72...

I am thinking that I will leave out the No FG coins for this album. Its more of an error to me anyways.

Thanks guys.
Rest in Peace

Are the no FG 50 cent coins actually that rare (as seen in the ad). He is asking a minimum of $19.00 for the 1982-P. I better keep my eye out when I go CRH.

I search an average of $1K halves a week and have kept running totals for 73 boxes.

Here are No FG totals and the years I look at for them:

72D............3/1153 No FGs found
82P.............0/179  No FGs found
83P.............5/898  No FGs found

So if I were going to make an album, I would definitely include the 66, 82, 83, and 72D as these are the ones that regularly show up on ebay and the CRH thread.

I have read (sorry I don't know where), that almost any year can be found this way, but the 66, 72D, and 82 were not a Struck Through Grease error as some of the others are. I cannot say how accurate this statement is though.

I just found 2 1982 no fg today in 3000$ worth of halves, BUT I dont date check every coin, just the 82's when I see them. Found 7-8 total in 3 monthes of looking.

I would include atleast the 1982 version as that seems to be a more common and recognized one.

Also whats up with that ad and a "no F"? Never heard of that, seen plenty with a faded no fg though.

@numismo
The wonderful head teller at my bank cheerfuly orders boxes for me. I have done 73 boxes so far since (I think) last April. She even called me one week to let me know someone had brought in a bunch of "old silver ones" and wanted me to know she had put them aside for me!

@halfhunter:
Wow - I guess I am in the wrong place for some of these errors. I have gone through over three thousand individual 1972-Ps and no DDO, yet others who are roll searching have found a couple without going through this many. I only do 2 boxes (sometimes 3 a week), but I would figure after 24K of halves, I would have guessed I'd get at least one 82P No FG.

I actually date check every coin, stack them into piles by possible DDOs, DDRs etc., and then after all rolls are done, I go back through the piles and look at each half under a microscope.

As to the no F variety, I think people are just trying to cash in on this. I have seen some 72Ds and 83s like this where the F is gone but not the G.

Hey Earl, thanks to you posting I started checking those 1982 coins when I see them. Looks like I need to start checking 72 and 83, maybe 88 since that add says they have them.

Also need to check my 66 coins at some point. IF you dont find an 82 soon let me know, maybe we can trade an 82 for one of your other years I dont have. I'm gonna start checking atleast those 83 and 72's as well, my mind is trained now if I see 82 to check it, need to get those others built in to me brain when looking through coins.

Like I said Hondo, do the 66 and atleast the 82 or Include one of the clad no fg's maybe 72 if thats recognized on pcgs. I know iv seen slabbed 82's on ebay before dont remember what grading company.

By the way, in case anyone is interested, it looks like they are issuing a Dansco 8167... the album is a continuation of the 8166, not a new album altogether.

Oops - You have a typo there. The No FGs are:

72 -D not Phiily as above

82-P - not Denver as above

83-P not Denver as above

Hey Hondo, would you mind telling me what you are going to label the album with? You said P-touch and I have no idea what this is. I have been thinking of getting a label maker and guess this is what you refer to?
