I just got back into my coin collection after a long time. I have my Lincoln Cents in an old Whitman coin folders. The folder is starting to fall apart. I want to replace the folder with something with more protection. What do you recommend ? I was looking at Whitman Album. Is there any albums with plastic protection, so no air gets in ?

I think those CAPS albums will stop air from coming in but it would be expensive. I believe you have to buy an air-tite for every coin (which runs like 30-50 cents each , more than a lot of the coins are worth!). I use the Dansco Album. I store it in a gallon zip lock bag with a selica gel packet in it. I've only had it stored like this for about a year, but no issues yet.

I like the Dansco album for my circ set as well.

I have my Jefferson nickels in a Whitman album and it does the job. I just started a Statehood Quarter set and got a Dansco album for that. I think I like it just a little more than the Whitman. I believe the Dansco albums are just slightly more expensive but, not that much really. If you're concerned about air, then I think the CAPS albums are the answer. I wouldn't use them for average sets though because they can get really pricey.

I use Whitman Classic albums for most of my "from circulation" sets. They're decent quality and I prefer the blue over the Dansco brown. Also I like the Whitman typeface better.

I will agree with the previous posts regarding CAPS albums. They are relatively air-tite but can cost more than the value of the coin. That said, the CAPS presentation is great, in my opinion. They are a great way to display your coins, seem to be build to last, and should protect your coins. So, it would be the value of your coins and your disposable income that might be the deciding factors. That said, I have decided to use them for my proof and mint sets. I have been very happy with the experience. I have about 60 years of sets to place in the CAPS albums--3 years finished! AND... they can be customized.

I think a Whitman or Dansco album would be good enough. There are certainly a significant upgrade from a folder. I would not worry about using anything air tight, not for coins which has been in a folder for so long.
Of course, do keep your albums protected as best you can. Stable temperature, low humidity. Nothing wrong from keeping them in a large Ziploc or similar storage bag.

What is nice about a Whitman Album is they show up Copper much better than other colors for albums.

Not yet mentioned: Library of coins album!
I wouldn't buy a brand new album for it. Just get a used one where you can view both sides. Loc, whitman, dansco, wayte raymond

Quote: What is nice about a Whitman Album is they show up Copper much better than other colors for albums. A matter of opinion or personal preference, but not a fact. Copper looks just fine to me in my Dansco.

I keep all of mine (both sets) in 2x2's and a three ring binder, works great.
