Nickels?
You can get chrome plated coins, nickel coins, and cupronickel coins, and the chance to find George V.

Dimes?
Still nickel dimes until 2000, the odd chance of finding silver, and the ultra rare occasion of getting a 1969 Large Date.

Quarters?
Great for beginners. You have silver, the 1973 mountie, 1992 provincial, 1999 issues, 2000 issues, and now the countless commemorative quarters since then, including colourized versions.

Loonies and Toonies?
More commemoratives. W mintmark toonies sometimes show up.

So what's your pick now that the cent is now gone?

How about collecting all commemoratives from pocket change?
Saves annoying bank staff! Collect them in a a 2 litre bottle. When full, do a population count, keep the best for a type set, and spend the rest.
A 2 litre polypropylene bottle contains about $500 face value in coins.

I have about 50,000 pennies all rolled by year. I've done this for 10+ years, now I can sit back and roll search for varieties.

Commemorative coins for circulation are intended to be used for commerce in the same manner as regular issue coins. However, the commemorative design is only issued for a limited time and it is intended to bring attention to a specific event or individual.

Canada's first dollar coin for circulation was also the first commemorative coin issued for circulation in Canada. The 1935 silver dollar marked the Silver Jubilee of King George V.

From 1935 to 2012, the Royal Canadian Mint issued 126 commemorative coins for circulation. This publication will provide a listing of all the commemorative coins issued for circulation in Canada from 1935 to date (December 31, 2012).

I've never roll hunted but wanted to, guess I missed the boat on pennies, but I have a nice big
Penny jar at home to go through. I was planning on starting quarters since I like completing all the commemorative sets

One dealer had a 1969 LD 10 cents in ICCS EF40 for about $19k.
