A few questions for you all. How long has this series been minted? I saw a picture of the 2007 year of the pig coin somewhere HERE, but it did not look like the ones on ebay. Image below is from ebay. Image: pigyear.jpg9.24 KB Are these coins put into circulation, or just un-circulated? Why the different pigs? I don't care for the one at ebay. I think it was triggersmob that had a picture, but now I cannot find the post or thread. Thanks for any help you guys/gals can give. LeAnn

The lunar series are coins from the Perth Mint and are NCLT - Non Circulating Legal Tender, i.e., you can spend them but why would you after paying a premium for them http://www.perthmint.com.au/Many of the NCLT $1 from the Royal Australian Mint turn up in our pokie (slot) machines because they look very similar to the circulating variety. http://www.ramint.gov.au/

It completely slipped my mind that the RAM also produced lunar coins, including the one picture above. IMHO the Perth Mint produces the ugly porker

Thanks Steve for the picture, nice pig. Is it both gold & silver? Thanks everyone for the links and info, may take me a while to read everything I want, but it will keep me busy and out of trouble. Then I'll probably have dozens of questions. Buy everyone here is really helpful. Thank you!! LeAnn

For the Chinese lunar years, the most difficult ones to be pictured are pig and rat. The mails with pig stamps to middle east countries sometime were rejected.

Rejected...Why? Pigs are very intelligent and very clean, given a chance. The ignorance in that part of the world never ceases to amaze me!

OMG!! When I saw that pig move, I thought my eyes were going. Is that from the movie Babe? That's what it reminds me of. I'll take one if it moves on the coin!! I still like the first one from Steve. The bottom one looks like the pig from Charlottes Web. Thanks for the pictures. I love pigs, cows, cats, and all other animals. Living on a farm will do that to you. LeAnn Forgot to ask, whats the aluminum bronze one worth? Anyone got one to sell/trade. I know this should go in members sell/trade section, but then it'd be hard to say which pig I like. If you want, I can also post over there too. LeAnn

LeAnn, I am not sure if the pig is the one from Babe, but yes it does move on the coin. I like animals too, except cats, they make good speed humps. Only joking. The aluminium bronze coin, I think was $12.95 Aus. I don't have a spare to trade, but I did buy one for my wife, because she was born in the year of the pig. If you like I can see if I can buy another and we can organise a trade. Steve

Steve: Sounds good to me. My daughter was also born in the year of the pig. She will be 12 this year and I thought it would be a good way to get her into collecting coins rather than spending them. Let me know what you want/need and how much. On the moving pig coin, is it a hollogram or something else? Never seen anything like it before. Thank you. LeAnn

A little out of topic. As a trained biologist, I came across a theory why pig is considered "unclean". It is because of the typeworm in pig, a parasite, which could cause death if uncooked and parasite egg-harbored pork is eaten. On the other hand, the typeworm in beef is not as bad as the pig parasite. So, the raw beef is considered safer. I was taught it might be the reason.

LeAnn, for explanation on how moving pig works, see this site http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalog...ig-coin.aspxWe have a public holiday today, but I will get to the post office in the next few days and see if I can find another coin. I'll let you know. Steve
