Okay, so does that mean they're gone forever?

Quote: After being introduced on January 23, the new bill S. 94 has been referred to the Committee on banking, Housing, and Urban Affair. The bill has no cosponsors. Read: Said bill is dead already and the program will continue.

So what happens when we finish the list of past presidents, do we immortalise our current office holder and do we process coinage of past presidents that are still living?

That was my question. Do we stop at Ford? Do we skip Carter to get to Reagan?

I will answer the question with a question: When will they terminate the production of the One Dollar note?
I assure you, the U.S. will NOT go through cold turkey if the One Dollar note is withdrawn Most other countries have done it where a similar situation existed, and they had no problem.
Where numismatics has been strong in those countries that made the change, the hobby only got stronger.
Trust me, it is easy to do! AND cheaper!

The program will end with Ford unless Carter dies soon.

So if Hillary Clinton runs and wins in 2016 Will she be coined in the 1/2 ounce spouse gold in 2017, and a Presidential dollar in 2018 during her term?

Hopefully theyll skip carter and go to Regan and keep the program going, Bush 1 hasnt been in good health either. Clinton and on though I have no clue if theyll just end the program or go on a long hold, it could easily go at least a decade or two with no coins from that group

If you want more dollar coins, get rid of the dollar notes. If you want more Presidential coins, you need more Presidents!

Its not a question of whether life as we know it would cease. Its a question of what the people have said they prefer. As has been discussed in many threads, the total savings/cost to the people have not been taken into account in the studies. Yes, I read them awhile ago when I first started looking into this issue b/c it keeps popping up on CCF and I was intrigued to find out if they would save the huge, estimated amounts that was claimed. Polymer notes ALSO would be cheaper. AND they would save the larger increased postage prices of transporting masses of metal. The Canadian banks told me that they just passed the cost onto customers in fees (yet another cost increase endured by the individual - it all adds up!). One thousand bits of polymer are a whole lot cheaper/lighter to ship than a million bits of metal. not sure why the quote did not work on that last one?

Maybe they could switch to vice presidents and then speakers of the house.

I would rather have supreme court justices than vice presidents.
