Old ebay auctions of about the same coin (MS61s) has sold for $488 and $570, respecively. Those were NGC certified. Numismedia has MS60 at $620... I would bid on it instead of making it a BIN, but if you really like it, price matters less

$460 would be a bargain if the coin is good.

That is tough. I am not a gold buyer (wish I was) and looking at what is currently available for the 1907, I would pay the BIN if I really wanted it and did not want to wait. If I was not totally enthralled by it and was willing to wait, I think I would wait until the last couple of hours to see where it stood and then make a bid if it were still at the opening price.

I wouldn't pay $529 for it. If it sells for the opening bid of $475 delivered, that would be a fair price.

i guess ebay is not a good place to buy gold then. Looking at completed auctions, $529 doesn't seem too bad. Maybe I should see what local coin shops have to offer. I'd be really surprised if this coin sold for opening bid. I'd buy it right away if it did. I'm wondering where you guys buy your certified gold?

What completed listings are you looking at? You can't compare PCGS or NGC certified Mint State pieces to an ICG MS60. The piece in your link should be considered as a genuine coin only. Worth melt value plus a small premium for condition. There is $406 in gold there. I usually buy from Heritage Auctions. It's amazing how many ebay sellers do too.

I tried heritage and liked it except I have to pay tax, which brings the price right on par with ebay. So I figure I will stick to ebay. And I thought icg was a reputable grader?

ICG slabs trade at a large discount to PCGS/NGC. They are fine for authentication though.
HA.com tax would be a bummer. I'm afraid taxes on online sales are coming for all of us in the future.
What are your goals for this purchase? Do you have to have certified? And you might be surprised by this auction. I doubt if it goes for much above opening bid.

I would say ICG is reputable for authentication and circulated coins, but there reputation for grading MS coins is not nearly as strong as PCGS and NGC. It is certainly better than raw though, and they will give a fair ballpark grade.....but a coin where 1 or 2 MS points make a big difference in price; you will always want to go with PCGS or NGC.

My goal is a high AU or low MS coin for my type set. I'm going to crack it out anyway. I only buy slabbed because I don't trust anyone on ebay.

If it's for a crack-out then consider an ANACS or ICG AU55. Common dates in AU can normally be picked up for small premiums over melt and gold in AU usually has excellent luster. Good luck!

Yeah that's what I would like. Maybe I should see if forum members have any for sale. But yes high AU has become my favorite grade for all coins. Some look MS and they have much cheaper price tag. I'll keep searching, or I might throw in one bid on this ebay coin. Thanks everyone for the input! By the way, ms60 is in my opinion the strangest grade. lol.
