You are sure those are real? A little hard to judge from the image, but some of the coins look a bit off in their size.

EDITED - I see now that you collect counterfeit coins, it looks like you added to your collection with these.

I think I might need my gold rose colored glasses. I tried to drool but only wound up with a slight dribble.

From the Shanghai Mint?

Oh I'm fairly sure it's Guangdong, not Shanghai. :-)

The scarier thing is that there are some of these circulating as genuine *right now*.

Here's a closer look at the lineup:

- 4 fake double eagles. (1933 St. Gaudens hah!; 1885-CC, 1872 pattern, 1891)
- 1 fake gold eagle. (1933 Indian Head hee hee)
- 1 fake gold 3 dollars. (1876)
- 1 fake gold half eagle. (1929)
- 1 fake gold quarter eagle. (1840)

New-Acquisitions!-Classic-Gold...

Out of all of them, the most ridiculous was the St. Gaudens. The strike is as flat as a pancake and the 1933 just makes it too good to be true. :-)

The 1885 and 1891 could probably fool a casual or new collector easily.

The 1872 pattern is *really* well done. The reverse is solid and full of detail, but the hair detail on the obverse is lacking.

Liberty on the 1933 gold eagle is sad with its strike although the reverse is rather convincing.

The 3 dollar piece is probably the most convincing of the lot and I could see that one fooling a careless dealer if it were mixed in with other coins. It's my favorite of the bunch.

The 1929's rims on the reverse I think are the biggest giveaway with a poor strike around the edge, but the obverse is really well executed.

Finally, the 1840 quarter eagle would have been the best of the lot, if it weren't for that horridly misshapen date.

Nabbed them at $3.30 a piece. :-)

Any idea on when they will arrive in The Black Cabinet? I am interested in seeing the half eagle.

I think one of them is camera shy. I see the two $20 liberty's and a St. Gaudens, an indian eagle, a Liberty Half Eagle, a 3 dollar piece, a liberty quarter eagle but what else have you got there? Nice little pot 'o gold, or should I say fools gold.

Nice Steve. Counterfeits are fun to collect, I have a few myself. They are relatively easy to get here in Dubai and you have to haggle to get the price within reason.

I have seen the 33 St. Gaudens before, a worker brought it in and wanted some information, I look at the date and smile.

I *really* need to start cataloging the backlog on The Black Cabinet. I have an entire "to do" album filled to capacity. The thing that's holding me back is that I recently upgraded my system and one of the tools I relied upon to batch the images is no longer compatible. :-P

Once I find a replacement (and I'm going to try and dedicate some time this evening to find one) I'll have it up in a jiff for ya.

The 1872 is the only one not on your list there, and it's a copy of the 1872 Amazonian Double Eagle pattern. Third one top row. http://www.coinfacts.com/patterns/1..._in_gold.htm

Aye from what I hear they're all over the place over by you. The things I tend to see more from people who contact me from Dubai are counterfeit antiquities. But that's more tangled up in my day job. :-)
