On another thread in this forum I was discussing a particular ebay seller's commendable, honest way of describing the nickels he was selling and one of our members made reference to a "short snorter" note that this same seller was selling. [eBayItem]390539472839[/eBayItem]

What the heck is a short snorter? Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I'm not a "currency guy". Just curious about this unusual term.

A Short Snorter is a Bill that was signed by the members of a certain miltiary group. It started with the Airforce in the 20's and got popular throughout the Wars.
They would take US, and even Foreign notes and have each of their buddies sign them for a keepsake. Some pretty notable ones exist with FDR, Patton, etc signatures

I picked up one for $2.00 at an LCS. Signed by about a dozen folks. It's a cool piece of history, just not valuable unless you have some famous signatures. Mine is a 1935 series $1 Silver Certificate.

If you have a list of important people from WWII then you can find some good signatures and sell them for good money. Otherwise they are neat but not especially valuable.

The normal ones can fetch up to $15 while ones with famous signatures can go for thousands I've seen ones signed by Ike, JFK, Roosevelt's wife, limberg, and many other famous people. They are really neat if they have the location and date I have some from Pearl Harbor and from Alaska but I've been trying to find one with my birth month and day on it.

We have a member of our club that showed us a "short snorter" signed by Jack Dempsey. Be nice to get that authenticated!

Wouldn't it be wild to have one of our members idly looking at that note and realize..."Hey...that's my grandfather...!!"
