So 2 days ago I bought my second bust half.. I'm not the best at grading these at all, but I got it for $90... So I'm hoping I didn't overpay.. What are your thoughts on grade? I'd say VF-35 with a shot at EF-40? The obverse (to me) easily looks about EF-45, but the reverse has a bit more wear and I believe would hold it at 40, or even VF-35... Am I in the right ballpark? I forgot to show a few friends who are great with grading these, as I was too excited about having them see the 1843 Seated dollar I'd also bought.. It was my first Seated dollar so I was too fought up on that to even remember the half.. Lol. The guy/shop I bought it all from is by far the closest with their listed grades, other shops in my area tend to overgrade.. But this guy is usually spot on and honest about cleaning etc... The Seated dollar got the same grade from my friends, before I told them what he had it listed at, so I'm hoping this is also correct... Sorry for the horrible photos... Best I can do with my cellphone.. When I get a chance to go to my moms and use her camera I'll either update or repost better pics.. Surprisingly these actually came out ok, the ones I took of the dollar did the coin no justice at all... Lol, I don't even want to post it yet..

Obverse is definitely XF material. Reverse, however has too much wear for XF.
I'd grade it as VF35.

Those were exactly my thoughts... VF-35/35+. So do you guys think was $90 a fair price? Well actually it was a little under $90 because I spent just under $1000 there they took some off the total, so I don't know exactly what each came to, but maybe $80 for this one if I divide the discount between all the more expensive ones.. But either way I'd say even $90 would be ok for a VF-35 right? I always worry and second guess myself when I get home, lol, probably because the fiancé's like "YOU SPENT WHAT ON COINS!!!".... Lol.

$90 seems like a good price for the grade to me!

Solid VF-35 in my opinion. Like the look of it and you got a great price! Can you post pictures of the Seated dollar as well please?

$90 sounds very fair. I would grade it VF30 though. Either way it's a good deal because the eye appeal is strong.

Yep nice half! At least a mid to high end VF (25/35) IMO.

I think the obverse falls just a little shy of EF while the reverse appears to fall around the lower/mid VF range. I am on the fence between VF-30 and 35 for this pretty original half dollar.

the surfaces are so solid as a raw coin that regardless of a 25 or choice VF grade, the $90 is a sweet price to have paid for this one...there's a lot of scrubbed swill out there that people will wind up paying $90 and then some for so nice eye on your part an great buy

Thanks guys! I appreciate it! Ya I love the look of this one definitely great eye appeal! Joe2007- I'll get pics of the 1843 Seated dollar up asap, I just can't get a pic of the obverse with my phone that does it justice at all, I'm going to my mothers for dinner tomorrow so I'll use her nice camera if I've got time and get some pics up! It's the twin of the slabbed one another one of our members here just posted... It's identical, I mean identical, just raw! And for $455 I think I did great on this one too... Lol, here's a a seek peek of the dollars reverse, again, I can't get the obverse detail at all with my cell... In hand it almost looks like it was a proof that was put into circulation by accident, the fields have that sheen look to them... Definitely not cleaned or polished though...

Ill post a topic on it asap.. I just ordered a USB scope can the other day so it "should" be in by Friday.. We'll see though.. But ya, I'll put them up as soon as I can get a good pic.. For some reason with my cell I can't get the hair and the "liberty" detail to show in the same pic.. If one looks sharp the other looks worn and vice versa, but there's actually good detail in both.
