This dollar is my Philly example in my Morgan dollar Mint Mark Collection. I am simply amazed on how many different varieties there are in the first year of production.

One of the identifiers is the "gouge" in the cap behind the center leaf on the obverse. The date shows doubling, especially the "18". The fourth star is "broken" on the left side.

The reverse appears to have the two "extra" marks; one under the olive branch and one to the left of the wreath.

Thanks for your continued interest!

39A it is. When you get the coin, have a look for the clashed "n" at the neck, and the clashed "t" in the hair vee which the second right star points at. You should also see clashing artifacts at the lips and the back of the hair, under the cap. This is an interesting one.

Thanks SsuperDdave! I will take a look at the coin when I get her in hand...hopefully the next day or three.

Do you happen to know if there is an Obverse Reverse transparency-type overlay for the Morgan dollar?

I remember one for the Kennedy half a little while back.

VAMworld has a section that highlights the areas to look for certain clash details. I think it's in the 101 section.

Or, you could just stay at CCF and read my writeup on the topic.

Cool, on both accounts. Although I will have to read-up on it when I get to the house...the text is there (CCF), but no images...other than those little boxes with the red x's in them. Darn filter at work!

Excellent reading article SsuperDdave!

Vamworld is blocked as well.

Probably a good thing too...this robot that I operate (or is it the other way around?) may get out of control and trash the place!
