I have found a 1949 S Wheat cent with a slanted mint mark. It is not severe but definitly NOT straight. Is this common? Has anybody else found such a thing? I can put a pic up if necessary. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

mint marks were added to the die by hand until 1989, so it being slanted or out of position is very possible

Sometimes they take a hit in circulation and get damaged. And as Fuzzy mentioned they are hand punched. I have an image of one that is angled:

Hey mauser45acp ..Try enabling the Macro setting on your camera. If it does not have a Macro setting then you may have to buy a new Digital Camera if you are attempting to photograph coins close-up. The macro setting is usually the small flower symbol on your camera settings. Whilst on the topic of coin photography, always look up your camera specs for the macro range! A lower range means you are allowed to photograph smaller detail at higher resolution. Megapixels are great but Macro Range in this department is EVERYTHING! And of course, Like anything else, it just takes some practice, trial, and error :)
