The 1998d - ms 67 and the 2007d - ms 65 are very similar in both fields and devices.Finding coins in this condition will be rewarding and make the search quite interesting.

Yeah sorry about the pictures, I have to figure out my camera one of these days. I will love the search but to find a MS67 in roll I now believe is almost impossible. I am much more likely to find silver which is what started it all.

OK I am getting better. Here is a photo of the MS67 2010P.

I did not optimize this one so it could be zoomed.

Notice between the B & E in Liberty, a scratch, a good one that even dented the E.

Notice a scratch to the left of IN (In God We trust), this shows in the picture but it is in the holder's plastic not the coin!

So an MS67 can have a dent like that?

- your pictures are fine.

Well it may be over graded, what did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

I'll keep an eye out for Kennedy halves and send them to you at face value if you like.

$27.50
(( NGC 2010 P MS67 = $15 according to one price chart in a magazine, and according to the Official Red Book for Franklin and Kennedy halves a MS67 should be around $100, in MS68 is listed as RARE.))

Thanks for the offer but I have plenty, I go through a few thousand a week. That is what started this journey of mine.

Here is a 1998D NGC MS67, A costly one at $51, yet I am learning a lot and that is the point of the expenditure. It will make be better and more informed in the future.
(( NGC 1998 D MS67 = $100 according to one price chart, and according to the Official Red Book for Franklin and Kennedy halves a MS67 should be around $150 - $350, in MS68 between $2000-$3500.))

Help-With-Grading-MS-60+-Kennedy's

Zoom-able closeup..

Help-With-Grading-MS-60+-Kennedy's

Notes: seen with 30X Loupe
- Weak neckline
- mark below o in God
- small dings at high point of hair directy above ear.
- small dent bottom of neck - center
- four small dings bottom of T in Liberty
- Small scratches under nose
- multiple dents/marks on rim

I am only talking the Obverse as that is were most issues are with Kennedy's unless it is the shield on the reverse and in this case the reverse is fine.

So this makes you wonder, the difference between MS67 and MS68 in business strikes of Kennedy's can be $1000's of dollars. The mint set strikes are not hard to find in MS68, business strikes however look to be very rare indeed in higher grades.

I bought a book called the "The Official Red Book, A Guide Book of Franklin and Kennedy half dollars: History.Values.Rarities.Grading

I am glad I bought this and in the future if they change the Half Dollar, I think the Kennedy's will be a great investment item for the future. I personally would like to see them put Ronald Reagan on the Half Dollar.

Back to the 1991D I found, it is one of the best that I have pulled out so what is the grade? I thought it much better but reality speaks wonders.

Help-With-Grading-MS-60+-Kennedy's

So it makes me wonder just how to do this properly. What I have noticed is that I will unlikely find anything above MS65 in circulated rolls. The contact marks and scraping from being rolled together are a killer and that does not even count the marks from the automatic counting machines. My 1991D would be lucky to make MS64, and most likely would fall between MS62 and MS63.

Back to the 1991D I found

this is a deep cameo and likely would have graded ultra deep.Someone may have had it in a collection at one time and for one reason or another it was gambled and lost grading appeal.

It's definitely a keeper.Your grading is good but the quality of the coins available in rolls is limited.

Update on the 1991D. I got a QX5 Microscope for $27 so now I can get decent pictures and see better at 60x.

Y'all were right, it would be lucky to get MS64. It has nice eye appeal for sure but is scratched all to crap as can be seen below. I still think it is a nice find for roll searching....Its the best I have found yet.

When I first looked at it, I got the impression of a MS-62/63 but I can't see it grading any higher than a 63. Overall, the coin appears pretty marked up in places like the left obverse field, neck, and cheek which for this coin is the primary focal area.
