I admit I am not well versed in VAM Morgan dollars even though it's my favorite coin to collect. I picked up a GSA Morgan Carson City Dollar a while back and while inspecting it closely today found what appears as a large die break running along the bottom stars through the date. Now the die break stops and restarts and two points during this run.

I'm hoping someone here can help me determine whether it's a common die break / VAM or something else. Thanks in advance!

Scott

They're my favorite to collect as well, but I can't VAM to save my life.

These cracks are characteristic of a late die state of VAM-2. I see some of the 1 doubling for which the VAM is known, as well. See the bottom pair of images here:

SsuperDdave-- thanks so much for the info and the link. Geez that tells me a whole boatload of information. I sincerely appreciate the info and your passing on your knowledge. I've been a fan of Morgans for a long time but now it's just become bigger. Time to pull out the rest of my morgans for closer looks

Thanks again!

You're in trouble now, man.

VAMs have a way of....assimilating people.

Rut roh George. Collecting Morgans is about to become collecting VAMs.

Nice one srs77!

I have heard about those VAM'ers being an addiction driven bunch of people...and you can count me among them!

Thanks, funny thing is I've owned this GSA dollar for about 6 months now and never knew it until I took it out to re-photogragh it. That's when I noticed I might have something...

This VAM thins is addictive! I've pulled out my other 33 morgans and I'm going to go over them with a fine tooth comb...

I hear ya! I had my 1884-CC GSA VAM-2 for a while, even sent it to ANACS for grading before I started looking for VAMs...I may just have to send it back (OKC Coin Show coming up in May to save on shipping fees) for VAM Attribution...just because I am quirky that way!

I think we all started collecting "Morgans" before we became VAMmers, I hadn't even ever heard the term VAM for almost a year after I had been collecting Morgans. Once I did it changed my whole collection and how I looked at each Morgan I was interested in buying, it was no longer a specific date/mm it was a specific VAM I needed
