I tried enlarging the picture, and still I could not tell any of the dates.

Me too, I tried manipulating the photo using GIMP, an open source photo editor and nothing. I tried enlarging and adjusting the lighting and contrast. I just know they are brown and not orange at least. I hope I get something good.

I believe it's possible from the picture to determine they might be copper.

I like this line on the listing: "I know there are some from the 1880s, 1890s and 1900s. I think there is some earlier but too hard for me to tell, I don't see that well. "

I think he blocked the dates or something. I zoom in but the dates aren't just there.

I did a search of his completed listings and other coins he sold in the past look the same. I don't think it is doctored, just a cheap camera most likely. Funny, me and someone else actually got in a bidding war over them. Here is a similar listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1962-proof-...047675.l2557

I actually saw a date, it looks like it is an 18 and ends with a seven. I hope it is an 1877 like I think I am seeing. This of course could be just wishful thinking.

My favorite is when someone photographs a single coin sitting on a table from 5 feet away. Doesn't ebay have cropping tools in their upload software?

I'm really curious to see what these dates end up being! Good luck!

You can use GIMP to crop an image but also a lot of cameras come with a photo editor don't they? I just scan my coins. I can adjust the resolution to make the images very clear and large. I have posted them here but had to use Photobucket since the size of the files. I have tried using cheap cameras and they didn't work very well.

I just can't bring myself to bid on a coin with bad pictures or the so called unsearched lots....
Call me crazy but I like to know what I'm buying

I know it is best to see what you are buying even though it can be a little tough sometimes with lots. I can't seem to resist these bad pics. Here is another one. I think it is at least VG and is cheap enough. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1841-seated...p=true&rt=nc
