I got this one form the bank - decent condition except a pen mark on the REV.

I know it would have been better as 00001199, but still wondering since it is a a low number and a star if it has any value to a currency collector?

Sorry no pics as of yet.

Also- will acetone take off the ink - I don't believe it will ruin the bill to try right?

Hi Earle,

factoring in that it is a star note, relatively low serial, and decent condition (I am assuming extra fine or so), you might be able to get $40-50 out of it.
It is unfortunate that 1699 isn't a year of major significance.

I wouldn't recommend putting acetone and Paper money together, would do more harm than good most likely.
Also "doctoring" the note to remove unwanted markings is not looked well upon amongst paper currency collectors.

Thanks Woodford - would this be something that a CCF member might like as I'd prefer CCF to ebay first. I just am not sure how many currency collectors are on here.

I beg your pardon, 1699 is the year Captain Kidd was arrested and imprisoned in Boston.

It's also the year in which Gulliver's Travels is set.

Not a significant year, pah!

Nina - you are great! I admit I was thinking of googling 1699, but had forgotten. Maybe the title of the ebay auction should be Captain Kid's $20 Star note?

Earle42, I'm surprised that you don't have a 42 in your ebay name somewhere.

I'm surprised the bill went that cheap. It may have went for more if you could add a less than five day handling time, if you could ship before then.

@GoldenChest
Yes - I had originally been going to have one in my ebay name - back in '98 - when I made one up. But...

In 1998 I stumbled upon 3 identical glass insulators (classified as CD145s) in a color called "Pea Soup Green." Taking them to a small backyard insulator swap meet, people there were wowed by them.

Three months later, and 600 miles from home, I carried the insulators into my first national insulator show. A total stranger came out from behind his dealer table and addressed me by name. This continued to happen as I walked the aisles and drew a crowd.

This happened b/c there were/are 15 to 20 of this specific insulator (in this color) known; and they all had been found as solitary pieces. Finding 3 (actually 3 1/2 - one is severely damaged) was/is unheard of.

I was talking to a fellow insulator collector who was successful on ebay at that time and she "officially" dubbed me with my ebay name saying that insulator people would then know who it was they were dealing with. Those were in the days ebay was young and great. So that's why no 42

@Bassmaster - thanks for the tip - I had not even thought of that before. At least the bill will be in the hands of someone who can appreciate it rather than just in circulation where I recently found it, and someone was able to get get a good deal.
