Both are real to me. You can see the first coin with part of the edge, it looks quite good. No fussy from the second one and its seller.

Both look fine to me. The first one is somewhat dirty and/or toned (Nowhere near EF in UK grading). It's probably the worst one condition one I've seen. I'm normally not that particular about grade (I prefer EF to UNC) but I'd pass on this one because you really need a clean example to see the detail.

The second one is much nicer, this seller sells a lot of these type of coins - though he seems to be very popular and he gets good prices so this one will probably go for near it's full value (about £140).

That particular variety has been terminated on ebay at least 3 times recently because they were fakes. In this case, they look better but I have not done a detailed cross check.

Filip Stakov (coiworldtv) sold me a VERY well executed counterfeit of a MTT some time ago. He said he didn't know it was a fake. His material has definitely improved in recent years but he gets top dollar as well.

The counterfeit of the 1863 Frankfurt coin is very well done. I have bid on several but they always sell for more than I want to pay.

Stankov is usually OK I trust his coins far more than most ebay sellers.

The following guys know counterfeits so if they post one it is an anomaly. I have never had a problem and they are all honest. They are on ebay. I hope I get their names right.

I don't usually like to do this because I do not keep a great list of people that sell good coins. I know I have missed many good guys. I have a much longer list of people who sell fakes.

I have as of the first of the year purchased at least one fake from over 1,400 different individual sellers. Over 1000 of those are from ebay. Best source in the world for counterfeits. My top seller on ebay has sold me 584 counterfeit Mexican coins alone as of January 1.

But the list below are folks I would trust not to ever knowingly sell a fake. There are some more but I have dealt with each of these for years some far longer than ebay has been around.

Don Erickson from NYC (dnecoins) good with world

my co-authors Gord Nichols (tokeng) and John Lorenzo (johnmenc) - you know no fakes unless noted from these two

Jeff Zarit from Texas (jeffone) good with world

Anthony Torra from Mass (atcoins) good with world

asyn from Canada - stay in more recent dates to be safe.

Ben Bell (civitasgalleries) ancients mostly no fakes

ernie Botte Mass (ernie) mostly US but No counterfeits

Bill Hussey (flacoin) world 99.9% - fakes are rare only very uncommon types that are deceptive - very trustworthy

Roberto del Bosque (numismatica_mty) no fakes high quality Mexican coins and varieties

Rod Zabrezenik (rdzcoins) pretty good with fakes but will refund - he tries hard and is honest.

WOW - That's double what you can normally pick these up for. Even on MA shops there are some for €175 so someone is paying way over the odds.

There are a few other very good sellers I'd recommend for not knowingly selling fakes.

Forvmancientcoins (ancients)

numismatiklanz (European silver mostly)

kuenker-muenchen (European silver mostly)

raman-coins (Indian)

theringmaster2311 (English)

Another very fake looking fake

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1850-B-Wilh...em19dba09d6f

While selling "reproductions" is not against ebay Germany rules (I think) this one is not labelled as such.

Reported anyway.

"Very fake looking fake" means not a good fake. I don't worry about this. It is not a silver-struck specimen to me.

No, it's not a fake that would fool experienced people but those new to the hobby might be duped.

I have bought a fake 2 Thalers some times back which is mentioned in a different thread. After that I always ask for the weight and the edge inscriptions from the seller before I buy. I will not buy from who do not respond. In the way I was able to few good coins from sellers who's main area of selling is not coins and with low feedback.
