Sigh ... tricked by foreign currency. I just had a thought that because of the overall shield design the coins form when placed together, the obverse sides probably aren't in logical alignment to the reverse imagery ... And when doing a more thorough check on the internet just now, it seems this is the case. Boo hoo! I travelled for two months in the UK in 2011 and never noticed ... Ain't she a beauty? PS I didn't realise how tricky it is to take a piccie using a mirror and a KB digi microscope while trying to hold one hand steady with the coin and focus and click with the other ...

Awesome find awildheart. Your picture taking idea with the mirror is creative, looks harder than I have the patience for, but highly effective.

Because its a foreign coin I reckon you can pardon yourself. I've made similar mistakes with foreign coins before. Did you know that when I first started collecting I was blessed enough to have all of my 10 or so US coins rotated 180 degrees?! lol

This is the normal orientation of the UK 20p with the part shield on the Rev. Seven sided heptagon with the point above QEII's head at 12 O'clock. I never noticed the Cuds all over this one until taking the pics just now, bonus!

Excellent cud-a-scope work Nancy. Robster, itsnot for the beginner these UK coins. (We are pleasantly amused .... royal wave ) Awildeheart, I'd have said the same if I'd seen it ! (PS: Do you have the full shield set? Just curious, nice idea).

These are the coins that make up a shield, but these aren't all from the same year. I just grabbed one of each denomination to make it up. Lazy bones. Left to Right, Top to Bottom ......One Pound Ten Pence - Two Pence ......Five pence One Penny - Twenty Pence ......Fifty Pence

... I'm nearly over my disappointment and embarrassment OK ... well, maybe not quite yet ... ... and now I am slightly even more embarrassed - by The Unicorn. Yes, you! Can you believe I actually bought a UK mint set only a few months ago and totally forgot I had it so didn't even think to compare the coin I had with the one in the set ... now where is that 'blonde moment' emoticon? Nancy, great Cuds! What a great score. And Enworb, Quote:Did you know that when I first started collecting I was blessed enough to have all of my 10 or so US coins rotated 180 degrees?! lol I couldn't believe my "luck" in the US with their "rotated" coins either. Funny though, I went to the UK after the US and while I noticed the orientation of the US coins, the UK coin orientations went completely unnoticed by me while there (and here).

I never ever realised that their coins made up a larger piece.
Maybe Australia should do it with states (like a commemorative map)? That would be very cool.
