While I am not a note collector, I often look at notes out of interest. Recently I notice this $50 note had an upside down serial number of some description printed under the word "fifty dollars" which appears on the side featuring David Unaipon. Was wondering if it is a misprint and and could be worth anything.I took the note today to a collector who said it is definitely a error as can see the word fifty is printed over the other numbers but would like some opinions and avenue to take if can be sold have put a couple of pics on here I hope they are large enough. Thank You Nat

Maybe a number so the RBA ,NPA or the makers of the Polymer sheets so they can keep track how many sheets go where & for what notes, maybe. Never seen anything like that before so really have no idea, just the only thing I could think of.

I think I can see "00048" and some sort of symbol. I have some questions: Q1. What is the serial number of the note? We might be able to see if anyone else has anything similar in the same year. Q2. Is it noticeable from both sides? Q3. Did you notice it without using magnification? Q4. Would you please post a picture of the other side? It might be a type of watermark used by the polymer manufacturer, but if that's what it is, I doubt that it would have been intended for that section of the sheet/roll to be used. It may have quite a bit of potential, so keep it safe in the meantime and don't make any hasty decisions about what to do with it.

Q1. The serial number of the note is EA 09810831
Q2. You can not see it from the other side unless you hold it up to the light you can see it then.
Q3. Yes you can easily see it without magnification.
Q4. More pics are being posted now if you need anymore let me know, these are just scanned should I take a photo with the camera?

to CCF purplenat75 Very interesting. I think that the line through the last 0 is also the same line that is in the "4" and that it is really a 1. Hence I think the number is 000180 with a - through the 1 and final 0. Still has me thinking what, where, how and why though.

It certainly is an interesting note. I wonder if the RBA could shed any light onto it or come up with an explanation of how it came about. It has all the hallmarks of being a genuine error to me, but I'd love to see what Goatieman thinks about it as well. Great images Nat.

I am wondering if it has something to do with wet serial numbers on another note being transferred to this one.

It is interesting and puzzling.I think I will email the RBA with the above photos nancy and see if they can shed any light and let you all know if I get a response. I also agree with you the unicorn it does look like those numbers now you have pointed it out. Who's goatieman and how do we ask him Nancy? Thanks again

Hi,
Why not send an email with the pictures to Trevor Wilkins @ trevorsnotes@bigpond.com?
Trevor knows just about everything about the ins and outs of the production process that NPA uses for Australian polymer notes.
Cheers

Goatieman is a member here and will most likely be quite interested in this note.
