Very nice. The Edward VII portrait is one of my favorites, despite the low relief. It often comes weakly struck, making it a pain to grade. Yours is quite well struck and only a hint of wear on the shoulder. An attractive AU-58.

I'm wondering how much they blow them up when grading these days.
I'm also hoping that the plastic is not touching and rubbing the toning off of the highest points there. ...Is that a vote for slabbing my collection..?

I (like you) also see the lightness on the ribbon and the highest points on his robe,...but the fields are next to perfect.

The top of the ear is still pristine and the crown jewels are perfect too.. It's graded by ICCS too,.. back in the 90's.

It may well be MS, but I am leaning towards AU58. Sometimes is hard to judge actual wear on a ~100% toned coin, since the slightest bit of handling can cause the highest points not to tone later in the coin's life.

Thanks for the comments and tough grading. You have to love both sides and their differences.

It's next to impossible to properly grade a very high grade coin through two sheets of plastic.

I was going to say 64.

It's significantly nicer than the 64 I have (which I think is overgraded).

From what I keep hearing here,..the grading now is a lot less conservative from way back when most of my coins were graded in the 90's.

By what I'm seeing here, many of my 62's go to 63 and my 63's go to 64 ...and what about my many 65's..........

The values ~ double with every step up when looking at the higher grades.

DEVLEC - Prices have adjusted for this. If there are two MS65s up for sale, and one of them is in an older holder, the other in a new holder, the one in the old holder is going to sell for more (sight unseen of course)
