Does the obverse of this coin look cleaned to anyone? http://www.ebay.com/itm/230959029830It's my coin, previously ICCS, and isn't cleaned, but I'm surprised how little action there's been after four days, and after inspecting, the picture kind of makes it looked cleaned to me. Just wondering if anyone else sees it that way too. Thanks!

Hi jg,
Hope your day's goin' well... :)
They are not the most flattering pics... especially the obverse... but good enough to make me wonder how ICCS would have graded coin as MS...

thanks bmx - I'll have to check to see if I can upload different pictures when I get home from work.
cameron - the coin doesn't have any eye appeal (hence my upgrade), but with it in hand, I don't doubt it's MS. What are you seeing in particular?

Thanks pokerman. It's not cleaned, but I was concerned that the picture seems to show it that way. Definitely a concensus that the pictures are poor.

Hi jg,
On reverse the leaves appear to have some wear... on obverse it looks like there are flat areas on the crown band... the ear looks worn esp at top end... lettering and edges just don't look "sharp" as you would expect to see on MS...
I would say coin has seen some circulation in its day.

First off... you have to take the coin out of the 2x2 for a approximate grade. Next, the coin is heavily toned, which is hard to grade in that condition. I would say it is probably MS-62 if you had it in hand, I think ICCS got it right.

It's cleaned.
At least by the pics, I'd say 100% cleaned.

Great coin--- but does look like light whizzing. Maybe a microscope shot could dispel this notion. While on that subject I am amazed that the high end coins on ebay do not have X30/40 shots.

Like I said, the coin was previously in an ICCS holder. There were no notes saying cleaned, scratches or anything of the sort. Also, based on my personal experience, ICCS will only grade an MS coin that's been cleaned as MS-60, this one was MS-62.
I'm going to pull it from the holder, and take some more pictures. I should probably re-list, since it won't be in the same holder, but I'll figure that out. I should probably also learn how to take better pictures. I've got a $1000 Canon SLR, that I can't seem to use better than a point and shoot!

And naturally my camera is broken. Will post better pics when I get this resolved.

" CAVEAT EMPTOR " - Buyer Beware :(
Anyone who's been around this hobby / business for a while will recommend that you " Buy the coin, not the package... "
If you don't know this already, you should...
I suggest that anyone buying a coin in ICCS slip critically examine it just the same as you would a raw coin... don't take it for granted that the grade printed on the slip is to be accepted without question...
Just because a coin is "in" an ICCS slip does not necessarily mean it is the same coin that once-upon-a-time went to ICCS for grading...
There are unfortunately far too many ICCS look-alike slips floating around out there... it's very simple to take the printed card out of an ICCS slip, then use that 1934 25 Cent MS62 card with an inferior coin, seal it in another plastic pouch, and then seal it into another slip...
There's no special sealing process or marker to the creation of the slips that is unique to ICCS only... and there's nothing at all special about the makeup of either the outer plastic slip or inner plastic pouch to distinguish them as genuine... they are pretty generic materials to either find similar product or replicate.

It does happen, quite infrequently though.Let's hope that's not the case here, and better photos will clear things up. When I first saw this coin on ebay I thought AU58,cleaned and set the snipe accordingly.

For the record, I bought the coin raw from a dealer as an MS-60 (paid $280 for it), sent it to ICCS and it came back MS-62. Definitely wasn't switched from the holder!
