Hey guys well I have been wanting to get a reverse proof for a while now and will pick one up this spring/summer some time when I have extra money.
I have been looking at the mintage numbers and was thinking about getting a 2011 because only 100,000 were made. Plus its the 25th anniversary for silver eagles. I'm not sure how many they made in 2012 and I know they are having a set come out in the summer with a reverse proof and the new enhanced proof, and that sounds really good to me. So what should I get? A 2011 25th anniversary RP, or the set in the summer with a RP and enhanced proof? Does anyone know how many of those sets they plan to make?
Also the other thing I was wondering about the 2011 ASE RP, do you think its worth getting a PR70? Do you think the value will go up that much to be worth it?

ASE reverse proofs are beautiful coins. I won't comment on specific mintages but will say avoid the PR/PF70 stuff unless you have deep pockets.

There are several years now available and you can likely find a raw piece for under $100. I'd go that route. The 2011 RP in 70 is very pricey for one ounce of pretty silver.

I know the ones in PR70 are a lot, but if the value of the coin would go up a lot vs lower grades over say the next 15+ years then it would be worth it to me.

If there was a coin in the series that would see a huge spike it would be the 2011 70. Thats not saying its assured but its possible. That one is the lowest mintage and since it looks like these have become a series now will be the key to the series.

As far as the 2013 set they will be minted to demand so its impossible to know how many until the buying period ends. That would be your cheapest purchase since you could get it from the source, but the upside will be fairly limited.

The one thing you can think about too is waiting until the graded sets first come out for the 2013. When the 2012 70 sets came out for about a week you could get them for 250 from Silvertowne, they now regularly sell over 400 on ebay with many going over 500 last I checked. The 2013 should have about the same upside potential assuming their mintage doesn't go out of control and that would also give you the added advantage of having a 70 for the new enhanced ASE.

The more I think about it id probably try and grab the 2013 70 set if you can find it at a good price right away. The 2011 price has leveled out and probably wont change a whole lot unless the new sets get a lot more people in the RP. I would check ebay prices on the 2011 and if they stay flat the whole time go the 2013 route since you know about what the 2011s will run and get that one when you can

A 2011 MS70 RP regularly goes for $300 - $400 at auctions, I can't say that I have ever seen a raw 2011 RP at auction. If you are patient and keep looking you could probably find a whole 2011 Anni. set for $600 + . The MS70 will always be the cream of the crop. The lowest Mintage will always be the most sought after. I just saw a 1995w PF70 at Great Collections this morning at $16,900.

My S.F. Set is flawless and I think if I sent it in , could have a chance at MS70 but I prefer OGP and will keep it that way. The RP in that set is the third rarest eagle minted, behind the 1995w and the 2011 RP.

I wouldn't put too many eggs in the 2013 W.P. set just yet. I have a feeling with the new enhanced Eagle, I see that set at 500,000 . Get what you can afford, If I had $300 - $400 I would get the MS 70 2011 RP.

I think whether you are buying this for investment or just for your collection will determine what coin(s) to buy. If you are buying for an investment then probably the 70's are the way to go. If you are buying for your collection then get the best one for the best price. I bought the 2011 and 2012 sets (for my collection) and I will also get the 2013 set because of the reverse proof. It is worth the price just for this coin.

RP 69 is good enough for me :)

I dont like these premiums on silver bullion that assume demand will go up.

2011-P Reverse Proof probably the best long term purchase.
However, for the most 'bang for your buck', probably the 2012 is better (comparing availability & price vs mintage).
You can also wait for the 2013 but it's a lot more risky, as some members mentioned, mintage can be significantly higher.

Why not get all the Reverse Proof that you can (it's still early in the series)? Down the road, as the series continue and attract more collectors, we will see an increase in mintage; which would also mean the Reverse Proof of 2011-P, 2012-P, 2006-P will be the top 3 keys of the series.

Just my 2cents.

The Perth Mint has been doing reverse proofs for more than 20 years.
I have recently seen a 1991 One Ounce bullion platinum Koala that was presented in this manner.

The US Mint isn't exactly innovative when it comes to new types of coins especially compared to the Perth Mint who does a lot of stuff I dont even know if the US has considered

Well thanks to you guys I just picked up the 2012 set in NGC PR69. Average price on ebay seems to be $165 - $170 for auctions. I paid $168 with free shipping. So in theory I only paid maybe $10 more than if I had ordered back in 2012 direct from the mint?
