I sent a request for opinion to Rick Snow about this 1863 INC ANACS MS62, but I thought that I would throw it out here as well. A friend is buying this from me and asked about the reverse and I did not think that it would amount to much, but... I thought that it is shift or Longacre doubling on the "O" and "C" of ONE CENT. The shield is another story. What does the CCF think? I will have to find the close up of the shield and leaves when I get to the house. Thanking you in advance for your interest!

I noticed the date in the OP image, but I would need to get a "Closer look" and I will post my images.
The line going across the headress is a scratch on the slab.

Almost looks like Strike Doubling the coin looks to have shifted during striking. Very shelf looking on the wreath leaves and the lettering, the shield is also similar, but way more pronaunced, I am in the SD camp, let's see what others and Rick has to say.

oih82w8-could you post a closeup of the date. It doesn't look right. Maybe some repunching?

I took some images of the date as well last night, but it looked ok to me...but then again...I will load 'em tonight.
Kinda figured...just wanted some additional input.

I'd agree that this is Strike Doubling. On true double dies, you will see doubling inside of the devices. For instance, the veins inside the leaves of the wreath, or the lines inside of the shield will be affected. On this coin, the doubling is extreme to the west, but the inside of the shield shows no doubling, and the devices inside the wreath do not show any doubling. Longacre doubling will exhibit extra outlines on both sides of the devices, sometimes all the way around the device, and not just to one side. Here is a great example of "Longacre doubling", sometimes called "extra outlines". Cheers, h8er
