I have settled on getting a White's Coinmaster GT for myself. My almost 9 year old wants a detector as well. Any thoughts on what to get for a kid?

That should be a good one for them.

Garrett Ace 150, 250 or a teknetics Delta 4000. All these are great starters.

I have been dealing with metal detectors for over thirty years and I have never seen a good whites detector, you also would be much happier with a Garrett or a Teknetics detector. It's your choice I'm just trying to help you out.

jsburton, thanks for the info. I really have no hard evidence to base my choice on other than what the local shop says. I was also looking at the AT Pro. What are your thoughts on the AT Pro?

I'm thinking about buying a Garrett 250 Ace. I never had any contact with metal detecting. Minelab detectors seem way much professionals but they are more expensives.

Anyway, for those who are experts: Garrett Ace 250 iS REALLY REALLY able to deliver good results in coin detecting?

Thanks!

I Have an AT Pro And it's one of Garretts best, it's easy to handle and half the weigh of a good Whites. I had a Whites MXT and the weight is not well balanced, and the coil was cheap.

Sounds to me like I need an AT Pro for myself and a 250 for my son. Anyone have one for sale?

I´m sorry nuggethill. BiggFredd is a CCF member, a metal detecting brand? I´m sorry, I didn´t catch it.

cipriani,
BiggFredd was a truly valued family member of the CCF.
Unfortunately, he is no longer with us.
Passed away last year.

BiggFredd had an ecrater store where he sold detectors.
BiggFredd was his forum name.

Right. So his ecrater store no longer exists? The quote made me think yes.
