Helping out at a local coin shop I had the opportunity to evaluate a interesting type set album.

Whitman
"United States Type Set"
"Small Coins"

It has a 1960 copyright, the youngest coins were a 1963 cent and nickel.

The owner said it was put together by his grandmother, and he got it after his mother passed.

I wish I could have taken some pictures before it was broken up. It was not full, but had some really nice nickels and Seated coins.

I am amazed by the coins needed to complete this set. For example 1793 Half Cent, 1793 chain and wreath large cent.
It has a lot more holes than the Dansco 7070, but it only goes up to quarter coins .. I know I would not want to try and complete it. (pictures below)

I did get to purchase three of the cents
1858 Flying eagle
1859 Indian Head cent
1863 Indian Head cent

I swapped them out for the coins I had in my 7070 set.
For some reason knowing these coins have been sitting beside each other for 50 plus years .. made me want to keep them together. Well, and the coins are not really that bad looking. I am very happy with the 1863.

First three pictures are of the three coins .. after I put them into my type set

That's quite an album. It would take some doing to fill it. FIVE Half Cents?!!

The '63 is a beauty. Nice color.

I really like the old Whitman albums, probably because those were the only albums I ever saw when I was a kid (back in the '60's).

I agree .. very hard to fill .. I just looked up the first two Half Dimes ..
In good (G4) .. those two would run over 2K.

I might have to take better pictures of the three coins ..

I would say, not having the coins in hand, the 1863 would fall into MS territory.
The FEC is a beaut as well. Appears XF+.

Thats the set album I have. I bought it back in the late 60's and have been working on it since. there are 68 holes to fill. I have 25 of them filled. I doubt I will ever complete it, but I love seeing all of them side by side and the ease of removing coins when I need a closer look. the slides are very convenient. I agree It would take quite a deep pocket book to complete.

Very nice small cents.

I wonder what other coins may have been in the album at some point

It's not a surprise you're happy with the 1863, it is a very, very nice coin.

Thanks for posting Bryan ... another interesting album.

Were were looking up some of the coins today, from the small coin album.
If we got it right, seven of the coins in G4, would cost around 25k.

I am not really a big fan of whitman albums, but it sure would be nice to have both of these albums, completed and in my collection
