A recent upgrade! What do you all grade the new arrival? (You can also attribute an Overton to it too if you wish. I haven't researched it yet!!) Thanks for looking!! 1824 Capped Bust Half Dollar

I'll be first and call it a 45.

AU55 by the looks of the hair definition! The reverse feathers may be weakly struck, but look at the arrow fletchings! Cool Half Dollar any day of the week!

I could take it to 50. Love these bust halves! I just posted a 1807 CBH 50/20. Just think if it was in as good of shape as your 1824! Throw out the book for that price! Nice PQ coin.

O-109, I think. Look for recutting outside the diagonal of the 4.

Choice AU; great detail! Much luster? Like about all other CBH...it has been cleaned and retoned but looks market acceptable; hopefully not all the luster has been burned off, though.

Great strike and excellent eye appeal with little wear puts this one at AU53 for me.

O-109, Rarity 2 (24 over 24) diagnostics: Obverse: Star 7 is high and nearly touches the cap and the 4 shows recutting. Reverse: The I alignment matches (to the left of the second T in STATES), the R and I (in AMERICA) touch, the arrowheads are crude and top one is very close to the third A, the second T top is above the top of the E in STATES, and the right leg of the second A is higher than the left base of the M adjacent to it. Lots of details useful to identify this Overton!

Easily AU in my opinion. Excellent hair detail and stellar eye appeal. It's hard to fine an early bust half with consistent strong strike on both sides.

question: with all of these AU grades, and I can certainly see the detail and lack of wear, what about that rub above the "2" in the date? doesn't that net it down any? Am I seeing things with that?

I think this coin would make an AU grade. Not sure by how much but somewhere around AU50/53 most likely.
