I had a chance to pick up a very charming and well preserved example of an 1800 1 Real. It has nice amounts of crust, and very pleasing glints of luster -- particularly around the shield and pillars. The detail on the "PLUS ULTRA" banners is strong, and the detail in the bricks on the castles is full. See pictures below.
There are various die chips scattered in the fields on the portrait side, while there is a small die crack from the "F" of the assayer's initial (of F.M.) to the left pillar. I'm still trying to find nice 2R and 4R examples from the Charles IIII portrait series to make a nice type-set.
Never seen such small Mexican portrait coin as I collect large 8R only. Is the edge pattern same as the large 8R coins? May I have a chance to look at the edge of this coin?
