Hello. Yes, I'm a newbie. This coin's lettering is not sharp like all my other dimes. Is it an error coin? Thanks!

Looks like it is either acid treated or a poor fake. Need to see the reverse to tell. If it is an S then it is a fake.

But I have been wrong before

Reverse pic needed. It does not look right. Do you have access to a scale?
Need weight in grams.

I would be more worried about authenticity. Vermontensium might agree as I think his reply implies this as well. But not to worry. If it is a fake, it could be worth as much or more than a normal coin as there are some who collect them.

Here is the back. This may sound stupid but why would someone fake a dime?

This appears to be a cast counterfeit, probably contemporary, which would make it quite collectible regardless. :-)

Back in 1913, a dime was worth about $2.30 in modern money. It was quite lucrative to counterfeit them. (So it's not a stupid question, but a pertinent one.)

Welcome to the forums, by the way. :-)

Your coin is worth more as a counterfeit than the real deal ;-)

It looks like a poorly whizzed coin to me.
I say this as in the past I had a few Shield Nickles I considered junk and had taken my dremel with a fine wire brush (set at 15K rpm) and preceded to "tap" the coin lightly till cleaned up.
The result looked almost identical to this coin.
