It looks to me as if there is a seperation line on the upright of D and an upper split serif. It is similar to 1MM-001. I would like to know what someone else sees here? Thanks, Pete

It looks like something to me, but I am not sure if it is the 1MM-01 or not. Have you been able to match up any of the markers listed in CC ? Hopefully the experts can figure this one out for you.

No matching markers I can find - of course, the condition of this coin is not helpful in that regard. It seems to me that this coin is similar to 001 but not exactly duplicate...one thing that I do not understand is how close must it be to say that there is a match? My understanding is that you do not have to find the markers for there to be a match, but that it helps with the certainty of the identification if you can find some. Is that correct? Pete

That is my understanding as well. I will very much be interested in what the experts have to say. Either way, cool coin and great pics.

Thanks, Sudz - I use an Olympus SP-550UZ.

Less glare might help. Try diffusing the the light some through a plastic grocery back or thin tissue. (don't let it touch a hot light) Removing the glare will show what is there. Too much light is like trying to take an image of the sun. LOL

OK - I tried more indirect lighting with a bulb less bright. Maybe it helped a little, but I don't believe I am there yet! Pete

It certainly looks like 1MM-001, the mint mark is in the right location relative to the letters. However yours seems to be more vertical (straight up and down) than the one listed on coppercoins. That one has a slight rotation to it. I'm talking about the entire mintmark, not the repunched part. Could be a new variety, but with so many unphotographed and undescribed on coppercoins for 1987-D, it's hard to tell for sure.

Maybe CC's site would like to see it. Looks like a real good possibility for a new RPM. John1

Thanks, John1 - Do you mean posting on their forum? Or is there another way for them to see it? Pete

I just looked at the forum on CC and they say that they are merging with LCR and not accepting any new posts after April 2012. I have already posted on LCR...do I post again on the forum with "New RPM" in the subject or is there some other part of the site I should be contacting? Pete

Go to LCR and click on Contact us and ask if they want you to send it to them.It used to cost something like $3 for an attribution. John1

Looks like an RPM to me... Sometimes lighting can play tricks but I think you have a nice one!

I believe it is WRPM-002 D/D West. Cross References: CONECA: RPM #1, Coppercoins: 1987D-1MM-001, Crawford: CRPM-003 With some help I received on the LCR Forum, I used my newly discovered transparency feature to construct an overlay and it matches perfectly in terms of the shape of the D and it's relative position to the 9 and the 8! I would post the overlay, but I am not sure what the issues are on using someone else's photo without permission. (I would think I could send it in a private mail, however. Let me know if interested) Thanks for all the help! Pete
