I am aware of those. This is "inside" the normal "extra" column right next to the main column.

Need better pics. Is it in a 2x2? If so please take pics of coins without any holder. John1

I was going to say that was normal as well but I figured with your experience you knew that.....Its hard to see it in the pic but I think I see the doubling you are referring too....neat because I don'tthtink I have seen it there before..

Quote: That is normal. So let me understand this, coop... those four columns in your photo are indeed DDs, but because they are so common there's no reason to do this... Correct? Btw, I really appreciate these excellent educational photos you post occasionally. Each one of these pictures is indeed worth a thousand words.

Quote: those four columns in your photo are indeed DDs, No the four columns indicated by coop are part of the intended design and not any sort of doubling. The are sometimes mistaken for "extra column" type doubling.

With the new pic it looks like you have a doubled column number eight.I call them bar on column #*,in this case #8.Nice find. John

A thought to consider: When they polish the dies to cover clashes/feeder finger damage, what area of the die gets polished? The fields. The fields are the outside part of the die. When the reverse get polished the bays are also a part of the field. It the edges of the bays get roughed, what happens? The coins struck will show some area raised next to the columns. So when you see the edges of the bays that have some raised areas, it maybe just some die disturbance. I think that is what we are seeing on this coin? Note how the decorative bar is still behind the anomoly. So the area in question is not as strong as the bar in that area that would be normal.
