coinaki Valued Member United States 207 Posts	Posted 05/25/2013 12:26 pm Today I started to look at dimes for the first time and this one caught my eye. I do not know what errors would be typical for dimes so I need some help/advice to get me going. I looked at some sites for any known dime errors/varities, and except for the silver years, only the 1970 is known to have a dd (or any errors). For the photos below, * is that dd or just a die chip above the "Y" of LIBERTY? * the "7" in the date seems to be tilted slightly clockwise. Is this typical for the 1971? coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 05/25/2013 5:39 pm The coin was struck by a VLDS die. The die flow is connecting the center of the "Y" to the edge of the die. Not a Cud, not a doubled die. Just a very worn die. You can see the heavy die flow to the right of the "Y". A dead give away. Report this Post to the Staff

Coop... then I take it this is associated with a type of Die Deterioration & cracking? I looked up error-ref.com and the closest I came up with is "Die Subsidence" (a.k.a. Sunken die).
