I ship all of my single coins in half of a clear 2x2 flip. On the open side I have a label that seals it. On the label it has my company logo on one side and the following on the other: "Tampering with label voids refund". On all of my single coin listings, my return policy states, "I ship all single coins in clear holders or 2x2 flips. This way you can see the coin before you handle it. Each holder is sealed with a label. Returns are only accepted if the seal on the label has not been tampered with." Also part of my returns terms is that the buyer pays return shipping. So if a buyer wants to return a coin and has followed the instructions, they are entitled to do so. It also means I am out nothing. I get the coin back that I sent, and can do a second chance offer with the runner up, or just relist and resell.
Honestly all of these things people complain about with
ebay would be the same problems if you owned your own brick and mortar store. If you have a dissatisfied customer, they can report you to the BBB, or even worse, tell their friends. There is an old saying, "If you make a customer happy, they may tell one person. If you make a customer unhappy, they will tell EVERYONE."
I guess the fact I have either managed retail stores or owned my own business for almost 20 years now, I have a good understanding of the expectations of doing business. I remember reading all the threads complaining about
ebay and PayPal fees. Those just made me laugh as both are some of the most affordable ways of doing business everywhere, and provide more traffic than I could ever imagine to drum up on my own. I really like paying their fees, because by paying their fees it means I am making money.
