Hello all! I'm new to coin community and have a nickel here I would love to get some input on. Is this a s mint? I have examined a few d mints and it seems there is a little curve in the back of the mark on mine, even though it looks like it is smashed. Hard to make this one out. Thanks for any insight in advance! I tried to do the best I could with the pics.

It does appear to have the right curvature to be an S. I definitely don't see that being a D.

Thanks for the reply wesa! I picked this coin up from a flea market this weekend! It was in a case with a bunch of other old antiques. I have a smashed d one too that I bought and it does look a lot different. Maybe I got lucky. It's not in the greatest overall shape though. I'll try to post a few pics of the whole coin soon.

Thank you all for the input! I guess I finaly got a lucky find! I almost passed this coin up at the flea market! Coin Community Family seems to be a much more friendly place than a few other coin sites!

Quote: Coin Community Family seems to be a much more friendly place than a few other coin sites! Indeed! A testament to the founders and moderators, who are very good about nipping bad behavior in the bud. This is a cordial place where you can feel free to ask questions and learn without being belittled.

Looks right to me, but hey, in hand you should be able to see a lot clearer.

Thanks thisisfun! Yeah, you aren't kidding about the belittling on the other sites! I could hardly post or ask a question without someone getting worked up! A lot of younger kids on the sites too that acted as if they knew it all! I'm 35 and I'm willing to learn all I can on a wide range of coins and errors. It really is an art! Some say it's becoming a lost art!

Hey! Thanks for looking GR and thanks for the welcome! I'm going to post a couple of pics of it tonight but I belive it to be in "good" condition. Think it's worth geting graded? I've never sent one in for grading before.

If I were you, I would wait until I had around 5 or so coins to be graded and send them in. This helps with the shipping and other costs. (Rather than paying $40 to grade one coin, you are grading 5 for $70-90)
