Hi austrokiwi I know its the same as our 5 cent the point is that the die is on the wrong planchet I would like to know if anyone has seen this before or know what sort of blank it is that's why I put down its size and weight which is the same as a 6p I know that 1987 new zealand coins were minted at Royal Canadian Mint so trying to find out other coins that were minted the same time but thank you for trying to help

A NZ 5c is meant to weigh 2.83 grams. 2.88 is well within tolerances. It is 1mm thick not 0.1mm. The normal 5c weight is 1.24mm. Again I would say that for a circulated coin 1mm is well within tolerances.
Conclusion: This is a normal NZ 5 cent coin, nothing special.

mmmmm I can see clearly that it is near half the thickness of a regular 5 cent coin but still heaver? what is normal about it even the lip is different to any other normal 5 cent even a well circulated one... not going to argue enworb obviously not normal. Conclusion: enworb needs to eat a banana "to put you in a better mood" or look at this one

To me ( as a Kiwi) it just looks like a well worn 5 cent piece. Although the rim does appear to be beveled. If it were on the wrong blank I seriously doubt it would be on a NZ 6d blank simply because the 6d stopped being issued in 1967. I can recall when a child both the 5 cent piece and 6d piece functioned in parking meters ( the only exception being pre 1946 6ds) but that may have been by design as believe there may have been a small weight difference). Which 6ds do you refer to? At that the time the UK was issuing 5d coins which can't relate....You say the Canadian mint was producing NZ coins at this time so was there a Canadian equivalent? ( I often don't bother keeping up with which mint has struck NZ coins) The list of possibilities could be large.....perhaps check to see if there is a Bahamas coins that fits the bill.

Thank you austrokiwi, this is the list of were New Zealand coins have been minted I nicked it from Wikipedia in case there is not one on the forum. New Zealands decimal coins have been minted at the following mints - Royal Mint: 1967, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 Royal Australian Mint: 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1988 Royal Canadian Mint: 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Norwegian Mint: 1996 and 1997 (Cupro-Nickel coins only) South African Mint Company: 1997 ($2 coins only), 1998, and 1999 Only the 5 cent coin and various non-circulating coins and sets were struck in 1994. No coins struck for general circulation: 1968, 1992 and 1993. Iv been trying to see the other coins that the Canadian mint had minted for 1987 I'm finding it hard to find though because the Canadian mint site only keeps info on the last releases of there own coins ill have to go another way around but thank you for your constructive info. I'm going to have a google on Bahamas coins

Iv been looking and looking I don't think it is a Bahamian blank because size and weight add up to there 1 cent and its the wrong colour but on looking up that I thought it could of been Tuvalu 5 cent cause it looks so much like the shape and everything else added up but then found out that they were only minted from 1976 to 1985 which is two years before my coin but now I think its a 5 Toea has any one seen one? from what I can see its quite possible that this is a 5 toea with New Zealand die it was minted at the Canadian mint the same time as the New Zealand.... thoughts?

its very possible that a foreign planchet could find its way into a press a couple of years atfer its original issue (just not before!)

Here's some info on the PNG 5toea coin as well as a Fiji 5c: Data for PNG 5c Data for Fiji 1987 5c Info from Numista: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces9795.html and http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces6710.htmlAs far as I can make out, the 5t were only minted for circulation in 1975 & 1976, all other years were Mint Set / Proof / Matte, so I think that takes them out of the picture. I have spares of both the above coins and am happy to send them to you if you'd like them, just PM me.

The 5t is not magnetic, what gave you the idea it was? It's cupro-nickel, same as Aussie coins.
