1817-21 saint martin dutchfrench colony countermark km12, I found this in the bar top made of shipplanks and rope from an old ship. genuine or 19th century copy? the bartop had to be a100yrs old. of course my dad drilled a hole in it
Not my specific area of expertise, but appears to be a cast... specifically has that 70's era replica look about it. The counterstamp is very softly imprinted (and also slightly different than the few I see in auction archives, though maybe there were several slightly different stamp dies)... Aside from that, the entire surface has that porous cast look to it (which, before it invariably gets brought up, DOES manifest differently than environmentally-caused roughness).
NETHERLANDS ANTILLES. Saint Maarten. 18 Stuivers (3 Reales), ca. 1817 & Later. Authorized Under Dual Administratio of French & Dutch.
KM-12; Pridmore-Fig. 37. RARE. "S. MARTIN" and bound arrows within circle countermarks on a cut segment of a Spanish Colonial 8 Reales. Host coin FINE, countermark
Without even looking at the coin the word, 'copy' immediately sprang to mind. I am NOT in any way an expert on these, but I would certainly feel encouraged enough, and with some justified optimism, to take it to someone who may know.
