Hi everyone , I have this item that was found 12ft down in a trench being dug for pipes. It was also with some kind of crystals and also fossils. This was found in Tewksbury England and I'm guessing it could be a hoard of melted coins hidden long long ago. Maybe roman ? Can anyone help or have a guess . It weighs 369g and has tested at between 820-1000 and 840-1000 on a XRF metal tester

It looks to me like an expired pellet from an early 1800's muzzle loader - you found it at 12 feet because they wanted to be double sure the werewolf was dead. The crystal and fossils are the known remains of these wolves...

Either that or someone else has a theory...

I wish I had as much confidence in my knowledge as you do FF!

I have to say, it's a new one on me. The bowl shape does suggest molten metal that had been allowed to cool. I'm afraid the metal tester readings mean nothing to me. I presume they indicate it's decent silver?

To be honest, I'd be inclined to refer it to the local Finds Officer who might have an idea, or they could refer it on to a museum. It's certainly an interesting piece and of historical (as well as financial) value!

I suspect what you probably have is some hack silver that was melted into bullion form.

I thought hack silver myself but I wonder if this is collected by anyone or just good for scrap. It would be criminal to melt it, is there any way of gauging age ? I would love to know more about it. A real mystery !

Are you sure its silver?
Is the other side flat
flat - might mean that after other silver was melted down, this was left in bottom of the melting pot.
